BEST CHILL OUT MUSIC - WEEK 10 2014

3/2/14

If you've come here expecting to hear Coldplay's new single, then you've come to the wrong place! 2008 called, it wants its Bon Iver tribute band back. Obligatory Coldplay diss to one side, how are you doing? Oh, I'm very sorry to hear that. I blame Coldplay. Sounds like you're in need of this week's best chill out music. Thanks to the Curators who helped me out with today's pickings from Iberia, Koda, Young & Sick and many more. If you think you've got what it takes to contribute to any of our weekly roundups, then go and sign up to be a Curator!

IBERIA – GLIDE

Kicking off with some creepy shit from Iberia, because if I were to leave this too late, you'd end up having nightmares tonight. By the way, I'm pretty confident this video should come with some kind of warning! Avert your eyes if you're prone to seizures, bed wetting or fucking anything basically.

DU TONC – I'M ON FIRE (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN COVER)

Up until two days ago, the adorable Sea Lion was responsible for my favorite cover of “I'm On Fire” by Bruce Springsteen. Nowadays, that honor goes to Matt Van Schie and Mighty Mouse of Du Tonc! Come on, it's impossible not to smile when listening to tropical disco variations of The Boss.

KODA – INVITATION TO LOVE

To celebrate perhaps his most successful year yet, one of my favorite ever vocalists, Koda, is offering up his new song, “Invitation to Love,” as a free download. Ugh, I'm being serious, he's flawless! One day I want to hang out with him, watch Twin Peaks and pretend he's my boyfriend.

SEAWAVES – BORN TO FLY (SKYWIDE REMIX) – CURATOR DUFFSTER

In December, we teamed up with Seawaves on our New Indie Sampler in order to give away a free download of “Born To Fly.” Two months down the line, and Skywide have delivered this ambient reinterpretation of the duo's breakthrough single! As for our New Indie Sampler, it's available here.

COUSIN MARNIE – CAIN

Not only is “Cain” hands down Cousin Marnie's greatest song yet, this is probably the most adorable homemade lyric video in the history of lyric videos. Sorry, I'm fangirling too hard right now over this British chanteuse! Of course, the fact she's the most gorgeous woman ever does help.

YAGYA – THE SALT ON HER CHEEKS

Two years ago, Yagya unveiled the most underrated album of his career, The Inescapable Decay of My Heart. One of my favorite songs on the album, “The Salt On Her Cheeks,” has since undergone a reworking, and you need to get a load of the vibes! No, I mean it, stop everything and drift away.

DNKL – BATTLES – CURATOR DUFFSTER

A capacity to write melancholic electronic pop music is prebuilt into the genetic code of all Nordic peoples, alongside a natural beauty and a tolerance of cold temperatures. Raging stereotypes to one side, introducing my up to the minute Swedish crush! Serious competition, Postiljonen, just saying.

FAKI – IMAGINE

No idea who this dude even is, other than he's from Istanbul, he goes by the name of Faki BinboÄŸa and he's making some of the fucking trippiest shit on the blogosphere. Thing is, his tweets are in Turkish, and Google translate is a bitch! It appears he's a fan of Air though, so he's obviously a bro.

YOUNG & SICK – CONTINUUM

Young & Sick is coveted for his artwork, not for his music. He has designed record sleeves for Robin Thicke, Maroon 5 and Foster the People, which is kind of depressing, as they should be the ones designing record sleeves for him! Anyways, keep an eye out for his debut album out in April.

BITCANDY – WEEK 9 (MIXTAPE)

Our mixtape went down a storm last time, so as we're awesome, we made you guys another. It incorporates most of the songs featured in this post, alongside a few special extras by Com Truise, Tycho and many more! Don't forget, tell us your opinion on this sexy new feature in the comments.

That's it for this week's best chill out music, you guys! I'm back next Friday for even more, so maybe we can hang out again, same time, same place? Hit me up in the comments. By the way, if you've got what it takes to contribute to any of our weekly roundups, then sign up to be a Curator!

When Jess Grant isn't writing on music, she can be found playing it – on her guitar, on her ukulele, and on her recently acquired mandolin. Playing it hideously, she ought to add. Jess also studies. She studies the English language, to be precise. Jess is currently on her way to a degree in the subject, and enjoys starting and never finishing novels, screenplays, and poetry in her spare time. She also likes dogs. Lots of dogs.
