Best New Track: Basement Jaxx "What a Difference Your Love Makes"

8/20/13

London-based producers Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton have been making innovative, pop-heavy house music for nearly three decades now under the moniker Basement Jaxx. Their latest offering is the best new track, "What a Difference Your Love Makes."

"What a Difference Your Love Makes" is a mile-a-minute, stuffed-to-the-gills, dance-floor banger. Fellow UK-bard Sam Brookes lends his vocals to the track, and a big part of the fun here is seeing the normally straight-laced Brookes let his hair down. The track is typical Jaxx, in that it's highly infectious and will have you at least tapping your feet in the first thirty seconds. The long and short of it is that these guys have been doing this for a long while and they're very good at what they do.

(Note - If you're at work and don't want your officemates to see what sort of moves you bust when confined to an uncomfortable xx chair, maybe don't listen to it):

And because we love you here at Bitcandy, here's the official video for "What a Difference Your Love Makes." It was filmed on location in Alexandra, the oldest townahip in Johannesburg, South Africa, which really just reminds me that I need to re-read "Cry, the Beloved Country."

Pro-Tip: The fashionable and rebellious dance on display in the video for Basement Jaxx "What a Difference Your Love Makes" is called the Pantsula, which first came to prominence in the 1980's.

The more you know.

On September 29th of this year Basement Jaxx will drop the What a Difference Your Love Makes EP.  Pre-order it now on iTunes.

Thanks for stopping by Bitcandy, where we switch you off then turn you on.
