THE BEST NEW INDIE POP SONGS TO START JUNE

I feel like I’ve been saying “summer is here” in this section for the last few weeks. I mean it this time and we’ve got new indie pop jams to back it up! From the long awaited arrival of EPs and albums from salem ilese and Olivia Rodrigo, to new singles from old and new favorites including binki and Julia Wolf, there’s some excitement for everyone in this week’s round up.
BINKI - CLAY PIGEON
It’s not a secret that binki is just the coolest thing in the world, but his newest single serves as a very welcome reminder. It’s been a minute since his last release, and his newest single released with FADAR label has all that we love about him and more. A true genre bender, guitar driven “Clay Pigeon” has us stoked for what’s next.
JULIA WOLF - IN MY WAY
New York’s Julia Wolf is back with another hard hitting single. On “In My Way” she shares some wisdom in Italian. She sings “dimmi con chi vai e' ti diro' chi sei,” commenting on how the company one keeps says a lot about them. Having just been selected as one of Spotify’s Fresh Finds artists, Julia Wolf continues to be one to look out for.
SALEM ILESE - FORGIVENESS
Salem ilese’s long awaited (l)only child EP has arrived! Intro track “forgiveness” highlights her skillful vocals and poetic lyricism- the perfect taste of what’s to come on the rest of the EP! Known for her introspective songwriting and left-of-center concepts, salem ilese thanks the people and things in her life who made her who she is on “forgiveness,” (even the unpleasant ones).
SEB - SEASIDE_DEMO
This week, SEB’s “seaside_demo” blew up on TikTok after being remixed with “Watermelon Sugar.” “seaside_demo” is romantic, easy listening, and perfect for a sunset drive to the beach. The Chicago native bravely released the demo version of the song after it blew up on socials, stating "I literally want people to hear me and all my flaws… for better or for worse, I want to bring them to my special place in hopes they find some comfort there too."
FIJI BLUE - OUTSIDE
Earlier this month, one of our favorite indie pop duos, Fiji Blue, shared “Outside” along with their debut EP. With a driving bassline and synths at the forefront, “Outside” is about showing up for someone you care about. With a cinematic music video to go along with it, this song is a slam dunk.
OLIVIA RODRIGO - 1 STEP FORWARD, 3 STEPS BACK
We all hoped that Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour would be amazing and (spoiler alert) it is. Really every song is so well written, it was tough to pick just one to focus on. 1 step forward, 3 steps back, she tells the story of a cyclical, toxic relationship where her self-worth hung on her partner’s inconsistent opinion.
PAWPAW ROD - GLASS HOUSE
On his second single “Glass House,” PawPaw Rod effortlessly blends soul, indie chill, and hip hop. The Oklahoma native made waves with his first single, “HIT EM WHERE IT HURTS,” and he has proven that he’s not a one trick pony. That first single wasn’t a happy accident or a fluke- what we’re witnessing is the emergence of a new genre-blending force to be reckoned with.
