OUR 7 FAVORITE INDIE POP RELEASES RIGHT NOW

It was a nice 115 degrees this weekend here in LA. While we weren’t sweating, placing bets on whether or not the power would go out (it did), and staring at the sepia-filter-like sky caused by the fires, we were busy compiling our top 7 favorite new indie pop songs for your listening pleasure! Without further ado…

GLAIVE - “ARSENIC”

Produced by Whethan, glaive’s new song “arsenic” features strong melodies and wild sounds over a guitar driven beat. The chorus is explosive, yet singable. At just 15, glaive has an impeccable ability to tell stories with his lyrics. As displayed on his steady stream of single releases, his words and unique sounds have resonated with many. We are stoked to hear what’s next from this rising young talent!

GUS DAPPERTON - “MEDICINE”

On darker, reflective ballad “Medicine” Gus Dapperton tells the story of “someone who is self destructive so that they can get high off of the process of healing.” Piano and lyric driven, the new song is stripped back, raw, and offers a glimpse into his upcoming release Orca. Based on how great “Medicine” is, that September 18th release date can’t come any sooner! We’ll be counting down the days.

EMMA CHARLES - “BOOK”

With skillfully crafted melodies, longing lyrics, and her soaring vocals, Emma Charles carefully asks the hard questions on her new single “Book.” Love can feel like a guessing game at times, and Charles reassures listeners that they’re not alone in feeling that way. Along with her single “25” and a few new tracks, “Book” will appear on a new EP in the near future. We’ll be patiently waiting.

FINNEAS - “WHAT THEY’LL SAY ABOUT US”

On “What They’ll Say About Us,” FINNEAS reminds us that there’s hope. After attending a protest in downtown LA, he felt inspired by the masses gathering worldwide to fight against injustice. At a time of unrest during a global pandemic, he dedicates the song to “all who have had to endure this year.”

ANNA STRAKER & GABRIELLE APLIN - “GOOD DAYS BAD DAYS”

After hearing that Anna Straker and Gabrielle Aplin teamed up for a song, my expectations were sky high. I’m stoked to report that this duo knocked it out of the park. “Good Days Bad Days” reminds us that our best moments can help us through our worst. The song discusses such a huge part of the human experience in a way that’s reassuring (and also it’s a bop).

DECLAN MCKENNA - “RAPTURE”

Declan McKenna never fails to be exciting, and on new track “Rapture,” he takes us on an indie rock, guitar-driven journey about being afraid of the future. After winning Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Competition in 2015, McKenna’s kept us on our toes with his introspective songwriting.

JADEN - “RAINBOW BAP”

You don’t need me to tell you that Jaden is literally cooler than everyone ever. On “Rainbow Bap” he flexes vulnerability and versatility. He sings, he raps, he’s in love, and he’s heartbroken. All of this duality further pushes the meaning of the song, creating this mood that embodies the feeling of being unsure where you stand with someone. It’s also just a jam.
