BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 12
Well hello there and good morning to all. I don’t know about you but I’d rather wake up to a fresh playlist of the Best Indie Pop songs than sore soggy boobs. Milk anyone? Sorry, not sorry, motherhood is a an enjoyable torture. Anyways, as my half-awake brain types this week’s pop music highlights all I ask is that you turn up the volume now because we’re diving straight into 10 curated songs that you should know about. Let me make my exit now and let the below artists do their thing. Oh and puh-leez, if you love or hate the column shoot me an email with some suggestions or better yet, holla at me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
SVEDALIZA - DARKEST HOUR
The darkest hour is the best hour yet. All is quiet, all is still. The only thing missing was a killer track playing in the background and apparently SVEDALIZA knew that because she’s delivered a synthesized single that flickers like a slow burning candle. As for the sweet baby lamb, we’re hoping the best for it.
GRIMES - PRETTY DARK
This is your brain on drugs. Just kidding. This is your brain on two hours of sleep. Sort of kidding. This is actually Grimes surprising us with a demo because why not. It’s creative freedom and I want whatever Grimes just had. I want to feel as pretty as the Snapchat filters make me look.
SOLANGE - BINZ
Solange better watch her back, I’m sure Beyonce is coming after her to put her in a corner because nobody outshines Beyonce according to Beyonce. Let’s hope sibling rivalry is kept PG and that Solange is able to bask in her delicious recent releases.
GEORGE EZRA - PRETTY SHINING PEOPLE
They say that if you want an honest answer you ask a child. In the case of George Ezra and his video for “Pretty Shining People” it took a group of kids to reveal partial truth about the music industry. You see all you aspiring artists when you sign over your voice your signing over everything including your soul. There are those though like George Ezra who stick to their guns and sing what they believe in.
X AMBASSADORS - BOOM
According to the dictionary, “BOOM” is a loud, deep, resonant sound. According to our ears, indie rockers X Ambassadors fit the definition of Boom. Their single “Boom” is one that won’t be able to escape. Single along as you learn the sound your feet and heart make. This right here is the next “Baby Shark.” Just you wait and see.
POST MALONE - WOW
Post Malone has got to be the coolest dude on the planet right now. The man can kick it with everyone from DJ Khalid to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, play beer pong and shimmy like a rockstar on stage, and spit out a killer tune. Post Malone is simply WOW.
PEACHES - FUCK THE PAIN AWAY AS SUNG BY MISS PIGGY
It’s always nice when your favorite artists repost videos. Just this afternoon Peaches reminded us of the time when Miss Piggy got down to the hit single “Fuck The Pain Away.” Gotta love the muppets.
TIERRA WHACK - UNEMPLOYED
For the love of Pete … do me and you a favor and bookmark Tierra Whack. This girl is here to stay for a while. She’s got verses like no other and hooks so hard they knock the wind right out of you. If this is your first time listening to Whack, start with “Unemployed” and move on to her album Whack World. I guarantee 100% satisfaction.
KERO KERO BONITO - SWIMMING
There’s always a feeling of emptiness when listening to Kero Kero Bonito. What we once thought of as bedroom upbeat pop band has now become bedroom pop for sad people. We’re not complaining but we definitely recommended a high dose of vitamin D after ingesting the band’s latest single“Swimming.”
For the last leg of our playlist, I give to you our Best of Indie Pop playlist found only on Spotify. Wait...what? A playlist within a playlist? This is like an Inception moment except we don’t have the budget for Leonardo DiCaprio … Enjoy and be sure to click follow on Spotify for a daily dose of fresh pop songs.
See you all next week with more musical goods.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
