BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 32

8/8/18

I don’t know about you guys, but I have been on a week long music binge and I am here today to deliver nuggets of gold to you all. This week’s top indie pop songs will make you want to curl up under an umbrella on a beach somewhere with a cold drink in one hand and your toes in the sand. But since there is no escape from this beautiful concrete jungle I call home, there is only one way to cheaply truly get away and it’s by pressing play below. Turn it up to features from Jade Bird, Maggie Rogers, San Holo, and more.

JADE BIRD - UH HUH

UK native Jade Bird entered the music scene with the prospect of being the Alanis Morissette of our times. but the fire heard in Bird’s track “Uh Huh” we’re hoping she’s more along the lines of Janis Joplin. Whatever/whoever she chooses to be we’re sure she’ll do it with an angry graceful rebellious spirit.

BAZZI - BEAUTIFUL FT CAMILA CABELLO

Ooh yeah! The collaboration of Bazzi and Camila for the remix of “Beautiful “ hits all the right spots. This right here is the love making song of the summer. Test it out tonight and see just how well it works.

CHLOE BLACK - SPACEMAN

For a bewitching listening experience you can always turn to our friend from across the pond miss Chloe Black to deliver the goods. Her latest work “Spaceman” speaketh from the heart. Is it really that hard to find the perfect man who will satisfy all of our female needs? Yes, that is why we need a spaceman and not a boyfriend.

BLOOD ORANGE - CHARCOAL BABY

Blood Orange’s “Charcoal Baby” is for those  nights where you just want to cruise and roll with no destination in mind. Great for reflecting and coming back to your senses as a stronger person no matter what your background.”Charcoal Baby” forms part of  Dev Hynes upcoming album Negro Swan, out August 24th.

BIG FREEDIA - KARAOKE FT LIZZO

Big Freedia most recent album 3rd Ward Bounce, out now, overflows with good vibes that will have you bouncing and dancing for days. One of the most explosively fun to hear and dance to tracks is “Karaoke” featuring the beautiful Lizzo. Together, these two powerhouses tear up Los Angeles and New Orleans as they bounce their way through the beach and bingo halls. Watch and don’t be afraid to twerk to the beat.

MILLIE TURNER - SHE WAS A DANCER

At only 18 years of age Millie Turner has an official career of making dang good music that makes you want to forget about life and just dance. And let me tell ya, there ain’t nothing wrong with twirling your way through life.Engrave that in your brains.

RUEL - YOUNGER

I’m not sure what’s more shocking, the video for Ruel’s track “Younger” or the fact that at fifteen years old the Australian crooner is creating chart topping tracks. Anyways, the un and coming future superstar dives into the breakup of a good friendship. Listen and watch the short film, it beats anything out in theaters at the moment.

MAGGIE ROGERS - GIVE A LITTLE

There’s only so much people can take as far as all the crap going on in the world and the crappy politics people have to work with. When frustration kicks in, Maggie Rogers steps up with a track that pleads for a peaceful compromise. “Give A Little” is all it takes to come to solutions, but since at times it seems that the world we live in is not ours for the taking, it’s music like Roger’s that gives hope.

SUPERORGANISM - THE PRAWN SONG

Superorganisms is no stranger to using a crap ton of paraboles to throw shade or shed light on the kind of mentality people have nowadays. Their’ video for “The Prawn Song” backs up my statement. It opens up with a crab living in a plastic sea and Orono singing about how she’d rather be a prawn than live in this world. We get it, although we’d rather eat prawns than be a prawn.

SAN HOLO - WORTHY / LIFT ME FROM THE GROUND

San Holo continues to surprise us and lifts us while delivering the goods. We wrap up this post with Holo’s words on “Worthy/Lift Me.” “Lift me from the ground” is a song i wrote to describe the feeling of meeting somebody who makes you feel like you’re floating. it started out as a little melody I played on guitar, you can still hear it in the first part of the song right after the vocals kick in. I wanted this song to be something with a big drop but not with a typical trap beat that you might expect from me.”

And with that we conclude another week of the indie pop songs that we’re sure you’ll be adding to your playlist. For those who don’t have time to create a another playlist, we’ve taken care of the fitering and setting up, all you have to do is follow and press play here.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
