BEST NEW CHILL: DOJA CAT - UP
If Doja Cat hasn’t been called the female Chance the Rapper, please let me be the first one to do it. Maybe it’s the fact that it sounds like his voice on the sample of “I’m Up,” or maybe it’s because she can both sing and rap with an exciting experimental cadence, switching between the two like it’s nobodies business. Her sultry soulful crooning and chance-esque flow are on high display with “Up,” Doja Cat’s newest mellow pop-trap lullaby.
DOJA CAT - UP
It’s funny that the beat is a lullaby, but the song is about getting woken up. What clever irony. Though not too in your face, just a subtle nod the producers brought to the studio. Expertly executed on the track, riding the middle of irony and ginuwine. This song ain’t right in the middle though. It’s top of the pops. At least in my head, which is the only thing that really matters.
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
