BEST NEW INDIE: DAUDI MATSIKO - TAKE ME OLD

6/4/17

And now for something different; a change of pace, if you will. Sometimes what you need out of music is a brief, quiet moment among the noise and luckily for you, We Are: The Guard has got you covered. Daudi Matsiko is an Ugandan singer-songwriter, and his music has a deep, underlying beauty below its intimacy. Feeling introspective? Take a listen to “Take Me Old” below.

DAUDI MATSIKO - TAKE ME OLD

“Take Me Old” is as stripped down as you can get. The basis of the song is simply Matsiko strumming on a guitar, with a surge of ambience somewhere in the middle. Yet it is impressively poignant with his whispered vocals, hushed and nearly shy with its devoted and honest admissions.

Consider the track a love-adorned lullaby, a song that puts you to sleep on a long trip back home, face pressed against the passenger seat’s window because your significant other chose to do the most romantic thing of all and offer to drive. Not romantic? Sorry, Matsiko took all the sweet-little-nothings for himself in “Take Me Old.” Jokes aside, Matsiko’s acoustic love song is one of the more striking songs of admiration to come my way. Think yourself lucky to be at the end of this track’s dedication.

“Take Me Old” is a track taken from Daudi Matsiko’s double EP, An Introduction to Failure, which is probably the opposite of what you’ll find in that release. It’s out now, so take another moment out of the week for some further introspection.
