BEST NEW SONGS: BRUNO MAJOR - WOULDN'T MEAN A THING

8/31/16

If there’s one thing I can root for, it’s someone stepping from out of the shadow of their brother(s). So I’m all in on Bruno Major, and thankfully his debut, "Wouldn't Mean A Thing," is easy to cheer on.

Bruno’s aforementioned brother is Dot Major of London Grammar fame. And while it’s possible Dot opened some doors for his sibling, dude already has writing credits on songs for Liv Dawson and SG Lewis, and Bruno is an undeniable talent worthy of your ears’ time.

"Wouldn't Mean A Thing" is a simple and beautiful love songs that reinforces the notion that simple and boring are not synonymous. The sparse production and instrumentation allow Major’s gorgeous voice to take center stage, and it shines so brightly you’d swear it was the sun. This is one of those tracks that seems destined to be played at weddings and in Rom Coms until the end of human existence. Like all great love songs it has a timeless quality to it that is immediately recognizable. Hear it for yourself below:

Can’t wait to listen to what else Bruno puts out next.

One quick caveat with this song’s closing lines, though. If dude actually did travel back in time to hear Al Green sing, it’d be significant for a number of reasons:

1) Dude transcended time and space and actually traveled through it. Pretty remarkable.
2) I love Al Green, but what an absurd waste of a time machine. I’m not saying everyone is obligated to use a time machine to go back and kill Baby Hitler or some shit. But c’mon. You’d use this amazing, universe-altering technology to go watch a concert in the 70’s? That’s like having access to a time machine and using it to go back in time to watch a gospel singer from the 1970s. No other analogy or metaphor makes sense here because the sentiment is just that silly. I guess that’s love for ya.

Anywho, we'll leave you with the lyrics to Bruno Major "Wouldn't Mean A Thing."

i could climb the himalayan mountains
or the pyramids in west peru
i could travel back in time and hear al green sing
it wouldn’t mean a thing without you
i could sail across the indian ocean
and bathe in the reflection of the moon
i could find the buried treasure of ancient kings
but it wouldn’t mean a thing without you

you bring out the best in me
help me see the world differently
be a better man than i’d ever be on my own
i’ll give you the rest of me
you’re the reason i rest easily
it’s the love and loyalty you’ve shown

i could work hard, make a fortune
bet it all on red only to lose
if money comes my way i won’t be complaining
it wouldn’t mean a thing without you
no, it wouldn’t mean a thing without you

you bring out the best in me
help me see the world differently
be a better man than i’d ever be on my own
i’ll give you the rest of me
you’re the reason i rest easily
it’s the love and loyalty you’ve shown

i could climb the himalayan mountains
or the pyramids in west peru
i could travel back in time and hear al green sing
it wouldn’t mean a thing without you
no, it wouldn’t mean a thing without you
