Alex Crossan is a 19 year old producer/singer-songwriter from Guernsey in the Channel Islands who goes by the alias Mura Masa. Despite his young age, the London-based artist has exceptional talent and an emotional depth not usually associated with teenagers. The video for “Love For That (ft. Shura)” serves as a perfect example of both these points.

According to Crossan, this song is “a sort of lament on falling in and staying in love for the wrong reasons,” and the video plays to this theme. A single-cut, highly-choreographed interpretive dance piece which features a male and female duo who are literally chained together via handcuffs, the video for “Love For That” is emotive and powerful. The metaphor is not subtle, but it’s highly effective.

It helps that this song is tremendous in its own right. Shura’s angelic vocals float over the sleepy beat. Combined with this imagery and it all quickly blends together and becomes unforgettable.
