ELECTRO HOUSE - WEEK 26
Here it is EDC weekend and I’m back in LA like a fucking fool. How dare I tell you guys about the world of dance music while I don’t even venture to the greatest of all dance music events in my own backyard. Well, for those of us left in society listening to songs on Soundcloud and what not, maybe I can help brighten your dark weekends ever so slightly. To those of you who went to EDC this weekend — fuck off. Just kidding, I hope this brightens your oncoming hangover.
NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW from NETSKY, Pegboard Nerds, Jack Beats and Thee Cool Cats. To quote Tommy Boy, “Holy Schneikes!”
PEGBOARD NERDS - SWAMP THING
If Avicii coins the genre of Country EDM it’s Pegboard Nerds that drop the first Hillbilly Electro song. Their new track, "Swamp Thing," is a backwoods Deliverance style funky electro track that’s a party for ravers and rednecks alike.
NETSKY - RIO
And Netsky rocks out the first tropical drum & bass song. Fool is smart as fuck to get on this train while it’s still fresh and exciting. But still classic Netsky drum & bass vibes just with a banging horn section on top of it. As a guy who used to listen to a lot of Ska and now listens to a lot of Drum & Bass, you don’t know how much this means to me.
RAMZOID - FOREST EXPLORED
Some deep funky trap beats. This new shit from Ramrod is the freshest hip-hop I’ve heard yet in 2015. This is almost as inventive as when I first started hearing Flume’s beats. Ramrod you DEF getting a follow.
PRIDES - MESSIAH (GIORGIO MORODER REMIX)
I honestly have conflicted emotions about this. On one hand I like it very much and I think this is incredibly fun track. But on the other hand I think this song sounds very silly, like the sound of a 75+ year old trying to make electro. But like, that IS what is happening. Is that so wrong. Why you such a hater?
ASTR - ACTIVATE ME (HOODBOI REMIX)
Fun as fuck, big trap song from Hoodboi. This ain’t the only quality remix I’ve heard of this track so props to ASTR for making a song worth remixing. And props to Hoodboi to turning it into one of the prettiest hip-hop songs I’ve heard in a dog's age.
MAROON 5 - THIS SUMMER'S GONNA HURT LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER (THE HIM REMIX)
My friend Brendan came back from PAing on the music video to "This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like A Motherfucker" giving mad props to Maroon 5 for successfully writing an EDM crossover song. Props to The Him for whipping out the pan flute and turning this into a big tropical house party jam. Everything about everything here tbh.
JACK BEATS - WILD FIRE
Jack Beats getting deeper and deeper by the track. Here they rock with it-it-it-it-it-it and go to one of the deepest wobbles I’ve ever heard. This is like an earthquake in the Mariana Trench or some shit.
ANIA IWINSKA & THEE COOL CATS - HUSTLER PARADE
Some House & Bass music that’s got more cool ideas than a cool idea factory. This song is off the fucking hook, with a huge funky grimy baseline and big 808 breaks. This song can do no wrong as far as I’m concerned. I may just listen to it on repeat for the next 6 months. I literally can’t wait to hear this fucking out. If I don’t hear this from one of the G-House DJs at Hard Summer then I’m gonna scream.
WUKI - LIP POP (EYES EVERYWHERE REMIX)
While that last song breaks the mold, this Wuki remix from Eyes Everywhere follows every fucking rule and rocks all the harder for it. Eyes Everywhere feels like he followed a how-to guide from one of the Dirtybirds and absolutely knocks it out of the ballpark. Cool vocal hook, funky bassline, rad drums, eyes everywhere is a modern folk hero.
MELE - AMBIENCE
This song is a grower not a shower. Mele playing us all with some World Music House Music. This song bumps and then about halfway through once your familiar with all of the rhythms this song has to offer it really starts to BUMP like no way known. This song gets my hyper than hype and I can’t wait to hear this at a Desert Hearts festival or something rad like that. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to have it. But this song is really for sure absolutely head over heels for me.
MICHAEL WOODS - CHIN UP
Michael Woods is way way reliable. I don’t know if he’s ever put out a bad tune. Here he drops some progressive house knowledge on all the little raver boys and girls. Saying, this is how it’s done. This is how it should be, I’m ready for the main stage. Always have been, always will be. Big heavy electro drop here. Michael Woods is a legend.
WHICH ONE IS YOUR FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK? IS IT THE FIRST ONE OR THE FIFTH ONE?

About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
