BEST EDM - WEEK 24

6/9/15

Hey al! Welcome to another weekly edition of the best dance music in the world. We know you can’t get enough of beautiful basslines, scrumptious synths, fantastic future and bitchin beats. So of course, we’ll deliver the goods. WE ALWAYS DO. Boss man is out of town this week, so these are all coming straight from yours truly. Huge banging songs to kick your week off right and getting you partying in your desk chair straight till Friday.

We’ve got the newest of new and the raddest of rad from Nite School Klick (DJ Shadow + G Jones), Hotel Garuda, RAC, Claude Vonstroke and Coyote Kisses.  Y’all ready to Party? GOOD!

NITE SCHOOL KLIK - NEST HQ GUEST MIX

If G Jones wasn’t already the prince of Experimental Hip-Hop Bass Music he’s sure making a run for the throne right now. Here, he’s teaming up with Legend DJ Shadow to make some music that would be make King Bassnectar blush right now. Turns out the duo teamed up after Shadow played a G Jones song in one of his sets and the two got to talking. Shit, this is next level.

CORONA - RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT (HOTEL GARUDA REMIX FT. AOBEATS)

I mean we were all basically begging for a Rhythm of the Night remix, whether we knew it or not. Every other dance music classic has been updated for the modern era, it was just a matter of time. Props to Deep/Future House boss Hotel Garuda for stepping in and delivering. Throw a sexy sax and a fat baseline on a track and this song is ready to be played everywhere.

KILL FRENZY - H.O.U.S.E.

Straight and to the point. Kill Frenzy’s House banger H.O.U.S.E. is the new house banger. All you gotta do is give us a funky fresh house beat and keep repeating house over again, it’s that easy I guess. If you build it (on f) they will come (and dance to your house song).

SAINT RAYMOND - YOUNG BLOOD (RAC REMIX)

A new RAC remix should be just as exciting as a new Disclosure single. RAC is single-handedly shaking up the genre of indie dance. The man knows hook, funk and groove unlike anyone else in the game and is at his absolute apex when he’s remixing already solid Indie Dance tracks. Let’s add Saint Raymond’s Young Blood to the list. Check. Banger.

COYOTE KISSES - FERRARI

Some call it Neon. Some call it Future. I call it one of the funnest, funkiest tunes I’ve heard all year. An upbeat light bouncy synth line makes way for some fun funky trap breakdowns. This song is a party in a bag and if this can’t get you dancing I’m sure your life is depressing.

RIHANNA - BITCH BETTER HAVE MY MONEY (CLAUDE VONSTROKE REMIX)

All sorts of remixes of this track have been popping up. Diplo, Grandtheft, Flosstradamus, Gent & Jawns all keeping Rihanna’s original yawn of a track right in the ghetto trap wheelhouse it started out in. But then the Dirtybird boss comes into to save the day and turns it into a silly, bouncy tech-house tune. Everybody and their brother talking about this tune right now. Thanks for the subversion Claude.  this track really needed some interesting flavor.

YEARS & YEARS - SHINE (DANNY L HARLE REMIX)

Danny L Harle turning Years and Years beautiful dance track into a really interesting progressive chiptune pop banger. This song is simultaneously big and 8bit. Danny L Harle can’t be bottled into one genre. His remix of Panda Bear’s "Come to Your Senses" is one of the strangest songs I’ve heard in years. This guy has unlimited potential and buckets of interesting ideas.

DISCLOSURE - HOLDING ON (FT. GREGORY PORTER) (GUS PIRELLI VIP 7" DISCO MIX)

I was not a fan of Disclosure’s original track when I heard it last week. I thought Gregory Porter had a cool voice and it worked real well with the Disclosure boys’ sounds, but overall I thought it was uninspiring and blah. But thanks to Gus Pirelli I don’t have to be a wet blanket anymore. Anytime anyone brings up this song I can be like, “Have you heard the Gus Pirelli VIP 7” Disco Mix? That’s the bomb one.” Gus went in and made this track groovy and funky and now I’m in love with it.

TOM BUDIN - CHEEKY CHARLIE

Ultra Music dropping some realness on all of us this week. Tom Budin’s Cheeky Charlie is simultaneously a Future House summer banger and a baseline garage monster. This can’t be boxed into genres, but it can be boxed into fucking awesome. I’m just gonna keep playing this song out everywhere and expect it to become the next underground anthem. “What's that fucking song again???” “Oh yeah, Cheeky Charlie. BOMB.”

SHIBA SAN LIVE AT LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE 2015

After sneaking into the final day of Lightning in a Bottle there was only one name on everybody lips. Shiba San. Shiba San. Shiba San. I had seen his unique brand of G-House absolutely destroy at Hard Summer last year but I guess I hadn’t been paying attention to how big he’d gotten in 2015. Here, we all get to listen to his set from the Woogie stage and close our eyes and imagine all of the house hippies getting DOWN to one of the best sets of the festival.

THANKS FOR READING! NOW GO TO YOUR LIBRARY AND READ A FUCKING BOOK! SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!
