CURATOR DUFFSTER'S 8 EMERGING CANDY PICKS - WEEK 49

12/3/14

Over Thanksgiving now? You're likely a little stuffed and fragile from it all, yeah. Now before all those end-of-year lists head our way, with the much hyped BBC long-list due first week December, and before we know it, that continuous barrage of Xmas music hits us at every turn, we've got a must hear selection of new Emerging Candy. I'm struggling to pick a favorite from this talented bunch.

AQUILO - I GAVE IT ALL

Ahhhh-quilo! I recently put together some of my favorite & most beautiful tracks of the past year or so, into one handy playlist, and this from Lake District duo Aquilo sat proudly at the top of that pile. Wouldn't be surprised to see these guys make the BBC SO2015 list. We're loving the new (Pt1) cinematic clip for "I Gave It All," youthful times.

SYLAS - SHORE

We gave SYLAS some love in our New Artist section a minute ago, and the electronic duo continue to pull us in, this time with a wonderfully creative visual for "Shore," has us hooked!

KEVIN GARRETT - COLORING

Speaking of beauty, how about this for a debut? Pittsburgh's Kevin Garrett (No relation to the much mooted Jack, AFAIK), delivers a heartfelt and soulful song that is sure to turn heads. Oh and those fuckin' lyrics man, great.

TOBIAS JESSO JR. - HOLLYWOOD

We're spoiling you this week with all these stunning tracks that are likely to be be all over your post-Thanksgiving fragility. Allow Tobias Jesso Jr. to rent that space between your ears, with his gorgeous new track "Hollywood," the first to be lifted from his forthcoming debut LP.  If you dig this half as much as we do, we suggest exploring his early raw demos that can be readily found.

A-L-X - TIMEBOMB

It's good to see another Scottish artist begin to get props for their music. A-L-X is on our radar once again with his latest track, the brooding slow-jam "Timebomb," and it's met with this dark visual twist.

CLIENT LIAISON - FEED THE RHYTHM

It's been months since we last posted Client Liaison. The Australian duo, Harvey & Monte, may feel like two comedy characters. Just looking at 'em makes me laugh, in the best way -- like as if Noel Fielding and Ben Stiller started making music, though, epic throwback music, this would be it. Synchronized Skiing provides the backdrop to one of the coolest clips we've watched, pure pleasure. Oh my days, those closing shots.

MEANWHILE - ALL FOR THE TAKING

We've made no attempt to dumb down our excitement for MEANWHILE, on these pages. As far as emerging pop acts go this year, Tom Andrews is out there. We're sitting here scratching our ears at that 500 youtube views "All For The Taking" has racked -- come on, seriously? This is great from director Jake Jelicich, which drops ahead of Tom's debut EP release, The Element Yes, next week.

IIIII {FT. ADELE KOSMAN) - PEOPLE

IIIII (Lines) I dunno about the name choice here, but hey ho, this Swedish project is an interesting one. Together as a four-piece at present, they seem to leave the door open for new members to join their creative set-up, or go. On their debut here "People," which admittedly begins a wee bit unsettled on the ear, it quickly grows to this insanely catchy number. Pretty great pull getting one half of FOR BDK's Adele Kosman, joining 'em for this track.
