ELECTRO MUSIC - WEEK 41 2014
The year is just FLYING by isn't it? Blink and it's October and there are Halloween decorations up EVERYWHERE. Yes, I want that blow up ALIEN from my front yard. Yes, I want remixes of the theme from Friday the 13th. We're mere weeks away from some serious Halloween raving and that's SuPER exciting. Southern California is going to be the best place in America Halloween weekend.
But the real question is -- Hard Day of the Dead or Insomniac: Escape: All Hallow's Eve? If you're a REAL badass you could do both. Why don't you just try? :)
While you're figuring out how to do both, why don't you let these songs be your soundtrack? Enjoy the newest beautiful sounds from Nina Las Vegas & Swick, Mr. Oizo and Bag Raiders. What a lucky time to live in, huh?
NINA LAS VEGAS & SWICK - DON'T SEND
Mutant Club, a genre named by the Main Course boys Neoteric and Astronomar, is getting its day in the sun on OWSLA this week. Nina Las Vegas & Swick teamed up to make some thumping rave horn diddy designed specifically to fuck up the Club. Swick is an amazing producer and Nina Las Vegas is an amazing personality. They got together for this track and absolutely blew it out of the water. Who knew Nina could produce too? Well she fucking can! Can't wait to see her play this out at Hard Day of the Dead!
NEOSIGNAL - SPACE GSUS
Some banging space electro. "Reach for the Stars" indeed, Neosignal. This is what the future is like when alien made robots come down to Earth and actually starting making dance music and not just people pretending to be robots like now. That bass line is so rich and massive and haunting. I love it. Thanks neosignal, I mean… Robots.
DILLON FRANCIS - MASTA BLASTA 2.0
Dillon Francis is the king of remixing his own shit. I appreciate that he's never completely satisfied, goes back into the studio and fucks with his old tracks to make them new, unique, bigger and a whole bunch more fun. Just breathed some new life into a classic. Moombahton 4 Ever.
MR. OIZO - MACHYNE
Mr. Oizo's ode to the answering machine coming out on Flying Lotus' new label. You can't get better freak electronic pedigree than that. This is classic Oizo. His own personal brand of French Electro, hitting you in the balls and not letting go.
ALEX CRUZ & NO ONE 32 - BLOOM (BOOTLEG)
These dudes have promise at making chill deep / tropical house. The ideas here are all dynamite. It's got hooks, melody, nice vocals/lyrics and a classy whistle. This song is for sure under-mastered, though. Dudes gotta up their production game before they can play in the real league though.
MUST DIE! - ZIPPER FT. DATSIK & THE RAGGA TWINS
In my album review for Must Die which you should read, I'll wait...
… I make a lot of comparisons to MUST DIE! as Skrillex Jr. His using the Ragga Twins on this track REALLY helps that argument. Fun, hard-hitting bass dubstep. You know, for the kids!
WORAKIS - SALZBURG
So supremely chill this is out of control. This is like butter melting into a couch kind of chill. This is butter melting into a couch and you not even minding kind of chill. This is like the chillest bro you'll ever meet. Probably at a beach somewhere in SoCal talking about how he likes Ten Walls and wants to go to Ibiza. Is Deep House the new Sublime?
KIMBRA - MIRACLE (BAG RAIDERS REMIX)
Remember when Bag Raiders used to make catchy pop disco? WHO CARES! Here they open with a harp line that feels like it's straight out of Sesame Street or some other 90's educational kids cartoon that I can't place and it's driving me nuts. They intentionally under-use the Kimbra vocals, allowing the track to stand on its own in a way that most other remixes are unable. This way, it's a Bag Raiders house track, not JUST a Kimbra remix.
TIGA - FAR FROM HOME (DIGITALISM REMIX)
A goddamn classic. Tiga on the microphone with Digitalism's swirling electro behind him feels like an LCD Soundsystem track that James Murphy didn't have the balls to write. You heard it here first, folks. James Murphy doesn't have any balls. Tiga has ALL the balls.
TEKNIAN, DISPROVE & ORDURE - LOCKHEED
Summa that UK Jungle for y'all. I love these grimy Drum & Bass sounds. I love that Drum & Bass is moving away from huge build-ups and drops with MCs and towards keeping you locked in on the groove. That's the only shit that can get me UP and dancing anymore.

That last one is dope, right? Why don't you tell me all about in the comments. JK.
- KURT
About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
