NEW ARTIST FINDS: WEEKS WASTED
Is this a band? One lonely dude flying solo with nothing but his guitar? Nobody knows! But we do know that these acoustic guitar ballads are recorded under the name Weeks Wasted hailing from the scorching, cactus infested depths of Phoenix, Arizona.
Since one of their only uploads is a cover of Death Cab For Cutie’s “You Remind Me of Home,” I think it’s pretty safe to say that good ol’ DCFC is a pretty big influence. Weeks Wasted’s vocals aren’t nearly as high and breathy as “indie” poster boy Ben Gibbard’s, but this new artist’s deep, more sorrowful (yeah I said it - MORE sorrowful) vocals are sprinkled with hints of Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba and even AFI’s Davey Havok. That’s right kids, get out your unused Hot Topic gift cards and Warped Tour ticket stubs from 2004 because we’re taking it way back!
“Lights Went Out” (featuring an artist by the name of Our Red Kite) is the necessary acoustic guitar bummer-fest that we all need to sing along to at some point in our lives when we find ourselves alone after a bad break up. As the track builds, backing vocals and even some piano comes in to top it off for good measure. The lyrics are original and interesting to listen to, and you can easily imagine a group of kids in tattered converse and slim-fit jeans singing along from the bottom of their hearts at this guy’s shows.
If you like what you hear, make sure to keep checking their SoundCloud page because I’m sure there will quickly be more songs and info about this new artist to satisfy your hungry ears. And thanks to the ever so awesome Curator, Duffster, for this cool new find!
