BEST ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 17 2014
I came across a Facebook sponsored post that read, “The future of pop music.” Being who I am, I pressed the link with excitement. The naive pop whore in me thought that I was going to strike gold. Five seconds of listening to the track I came to the conclusion that the future of pop is doomed. I’m sure a lot of you have at some point thought the same. But would you believe me that there is hope? When have we, BitCandy steered you wrong?! NEVER. Click through the latest batch of the best indie pop music below to see my point.
SKY FERREIRA - I BLAME MYSELF
Since when did playing dress up in Compton become racist? Sky gurrrrl, you’re doing it right. You should be proud because you got an entire demographic talking about you and questioning your decisions. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, Sky Ferreira has gotten shit that she’s a racist. I swear people these days need to find a hobby or an occupation and stop stirring conflict.
TIESTO FEAT MATTHEW KOMA - WASTED
Raise a glass of whatever favorite summer drink you love and help me congratulate Tiesto on creating the most commercial song ever. I really had no idea he had it in him. It’s a hell of a catchy song that I want to hate but I can’t.
BETTY WHO - HEARTBREAK DREAM
If everyone is going to be throwing out opinions on the future of pop, than I might as well throw my two cents. THIS IS THE FUTURE OF POP. You can not deny the endearment you feel when listening to the track, of deny who your hips start swaying from side to side. Everyone in favor of Betty Who say “aye.”
LANA DEL REY - WEST COAST
Everytime I listen to Lana Del Lips I am afraid she’s going to let one rip. It’s nerve wrecking. The effort it takes for her to push words out of her mouth is too damn much. Oh, but back to the song. It’s a wonderful sleep sound that complements her most recent project, Tropico.
DWNTWN - MISSING YOU
In case you weren’t aready won over by their single, "See My Eyes," that we presented to you a year ago, DWNTWN returns with another powerful pop track that is a tribute to lead singer Jaime’s late grandfather. Make sure to also check out “Til Tomorrow." I have a feeling you’re going to like it.
DUCK SAUCE - NRG
Duck Sauce is taking over a festival near you. Like the duo’s lyrics state, NRG is “between you and me, it's a body shock, electricity.” The track will bring you up when you’re feeling down. It will give you that boost of confidence needed to walk into the cage of a lion. It will bring an immediate stream of good emotion.
KIESZA - HIDEAWAY
Bursting into everyone's radar is New York pop sensation, Kiesza. We first brought you the video for her single, "Hideaway," a couple weeks ago, so why am I repeating myself? Because this is someone who will not be disappearing from the scene anytime soon. I saw this one interview she did and she’s totes adorbs!
NEON TREES - SLEEPING WITH A FRIEND (THE CHAINSMOKERS REMIX)
First off, congrats to our long time friends The Chainsmokers for their success on their single #Selfie, mazel to you. Hits are a blessing. Now that that’s out of the way, will one of you two sleep with me? Keeeding. I only kid. Ain’t nobody got time for that. We do however have time to give some major love to their recent remix of ‘Sleeping With A Friend.’ It’s got a bit of a creeper on E tone to it, which I’m sure was intentional.
RÖYKSOPP & ROBYN - MONUMENT (SNIPPET)
Collaborations like the one above are what wet dreams are made of. I tried looking for the full length audio clip, but looks like they got it on lock down. The pair are set out to tour together and for sake of creating some buzz they’ll be releasing an EP May 26th.

About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
