TOP ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 50 2013
Multiple choice question here: (Circle one and one only) In this week’s PopSmut a.k.a. the top alternative pop songs, I want to hear A) Indie music that I can brag about, B) Songs that will make me cringe, but will never admit I secretly like, C) Tracks that will make me shake the little assets that my mother gave me, or D) All of the above. Regardless of what you circled, we’re serving something for everyone’s palette, kind of like a buffet, but without the fancy plastic silverware. Anywho, to the music!
LORDE - TEAM (CURATOR JESS)
Next time you feel like you can do as you please cuz you don’t give a shit, take a spoonful of Queen Lorde. In this new music video, she’ll clip your wings, squeeze your balls, and bring you back to reality. #Lorde4theGrammyWin
LITTLE DAYLIGHT - OVERDOSE
Yes, yes, yes...oh sorry. I was having an eargasm. Little Daylight comes out from behind covering popular indie tracks to deliver an original infectious vibe. Beautiful music for when you’re looking to feel happy.
PETER THOMAS (FT BETTY WHO) - ALL OF YOU (CURATOR DUFFSTER)
This electric track from Los Angeles newcomer Peter Thomas contains all the right ingredients for a pop hit. The future looks bright for Peter and Betty Who.
CHARLES WILLIAM - WE ARE THE ONES (OWN THE WORLD) (CURATOR DUFFSTER)
You can thank Australia’s warm climate for the inspiration behind the light and bouncy debut track from the duo known as Charles Williams. These guys are so new to the scene you’ve never heard of them.
MS MR “THINK OF YOU (HAERTS REMIX)”
Despite slightly ripping off Taylor Dayne’s “Tell It To My Heart,” we thoroughly enjoyed this remix, bro.
STARCADIAN - CHINATOWN
Cant wait for 1995. It looks like it’s going to be an epic year! Hollograms + Chinatown, I’m so in. File these artists under #Top SXSW Bands to Watch List!
JUSTIN BIEBER - CONFIDENT (AUDIO) FT. CHANCE THE RAPPER
OMG this is so not in our “best of” post. But we need some comedy / tragic relief, no? In reference to the multiple choice options in the beginning of this post, this is a track that will make you cringe in the bad kind of sort of way. My faith in humanity has perished. So much for the so called best up and coming rapper of the year. R.I.P. Chance The Rapper, your career was shortly lived.
LINCOLN JESSER - TOPS
Yes indeed one of our favorite new indie pop picks from Lincoln Jesser. It’s no coincidence that he’s indie pop, seeing is he on the Indie-Pop label (home of Cataracs, Dev and Yuna).
BRITNEY SPEARS - PERFUME
And then there’s my girl Brit Brit, she’s released a new video for ‘Perfume’ and she looks hot as hell. I want to badly believe that this is her vocals but it’s just so stripped down compared to the material she’s been putting out. Anywho the video is a reminder to us all that she is and always will be our favorite crazy bitch.
MAJOR LAZER FT. LAIDBACK LUKE & MS. DYNAMITE - SWEAT (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
Switching it up a bit for you, time to strip down, bust out your neon lights and shake that nasty thing. Sweat them turkey pounds off with the latest video from our favorite booty bouncing DJ, Major Lazer. But be careful now, don’t want ya to bust a hip.
LANA DEL REY - TROPICO (SHORT FILM) (EXPLICIT)
Closing this week off is a short film from our silicone lip savior, Lana Del Rey. Honestly I could write a whole thesis on why this film is what’s going to save America from its destiny, but I’d rather not bore you with the details. Kudos to the Anthony Mandler for all the close up shots of Lana’s navel.

Looks like we covered everything for the week. Stay tuned for more pop treats and as always, if you hear or know of something that should be on this list but is not, feel free to tip us on it by becoming a curator. We’re always looking for new indie taste makers to join our sick and twisted family.
