Best New Tracks: Birdy "Wings"
Not-yet-legal (most places) British songstress Jasmine van den Bogaerde, better known as Birdy, made a name for herself awhile back with gorgeous covers of indie demigods like Bon Iver and Phoenix. And now with the new single "Wings," off her forthcoming record Fire Within, she shows off her own Indie Pop chops.
"Wings" was co-written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, last seen around these parts with the track he wrote for Leonna Lewis Ellie Goulding; last seen in real life with Adam Levine, both wearing clothes that probably cost more than you make in a week but are supposed to look like they came from a thrift store.
Anyhow, "Wings" is arguably more of a ballad than anything Birdy has done to this point. Tedder's fingerprints can be seen all over the song, from the lyrics down the production work on the keys. "Wings" has the feel of one of those tracks that will be playing everywhere you go for the next 12-18 months, but don't let its potential-future-ubiquity deter you from enjoying it in the meantime.
