Best New Indie: Plains "Innovator"

Chicago is a hotbed for musicians. Miami is a hotbed for Chicagoans fleeing the godforsaken midwest winters. Thus it seems perfectly logical that Chicago-born Michael McGinnis would end up making music in Miami under the moniker Plains. It seems that all that sunlight and coastal breezes have done McGinnis good. The music of the Plains is undeniably post-punk, in the vein of Joy Division and other such gloom rockers, but what separates the Plains from all other imitators is the pop sensibilities that they seamlessly add to their songs.
