Best of New Indie: Week 3 (6 songs) 2012
Did you see the Peoples Choice Awards last night? Seriously, if you know any of those "people" who "chose" to vote Maroon 5 "Best New Band," please, PLEASE, for the sake of humanity -- FW them to BitCandy and more specifically, this week's "Best of Indie." The taste of this nation needs to be fixed and stat!
"A Heavy Abacus" The Joy Formidable
The Joy Formidable kick off this week's Best of Indie with an almighty bang...nay...freekin' dynamital DETONATION! The dirty stomper, "A Heavy Abacus," is just heading to radio now and is taken from the band's 2011 debut full-length, "The Big Roar."
"Belispeak" / "Lofticries" Purity Ring
Indie-electronica/Future-pop twosome, Purity Ring, deliver double the goods this week! First up, we have "Belispeak," whose spitting production nervously prickles at the contorted, childlike vox of sassy front lady, Megan James.
"Lofticries" carries forth these angsty beats and apparitional vocals, but this time, the sonics start to brush up against Clams Camino-esque emotive ambience. Keep an eye out for Purity Ring's debut album, "Soulja Boy" (no jokes, it really is called that!), this summer.
"Trife Ass Bitch" 5kinAndBone5
Next up we have some f'ed-up post-dubstep from 5kinAndBone5. "Trife Ass Bitch" (ahem!) is all at once deafening and serene, wrapping around you like some sinister spirit (that is kinda reminding us of our latest curator find, CRIM3S.
"Prurien† (Keys and Vocal Stems Combined)" ††† (Crosses)
††† (who, FYI, are the musical side project of Deftones singer Chino Moreno) stir up excitement for their forthcoming "EP 2" (out January 24th) by teasing us with the keys and vocal stems of a new track called "Prurien†." Even in this skeletal state the song sounds irresistibly dreamy -- we can't wait to hear the full thing!
"Bruises" Band of Skulls
On February 21st, British rock and fucking rollers, Band of Skulls, drop their anticipated third album, "Sweet Sour." "Bruises" is the latest track to surface from the forthcoming full-length, and yeh, it's pretty damn MASSIVE!
"The Night" School of Seven Bells
School of Seven Bells shut down this week's Best of Indie in luxxx fashion. The nu-duo have just dropped "The Night," the first single to be taken from "Ghostory," out Feb 28th. BitCandy already stamped this jam "Best New Track" earlier on in the week, but we feel the need to indulge you in it again, one last time...
