TOP NEW SONGS: TERROR JR - SAD SAD GIRL

Christmas is marketed as the most wonderful, joyous time of the year. However, for many, it's a cruel reminder of loneliness and/or what they don't have. The latest tune from Terror Jr exemplifies just those cold, tearful feelings that come with the coldest of seasons. It's appropriately called "Sad Sad Girl" and it's a strangely comforting, delightfully dark pop offering.

 Singing about stuffy-nosed reindeer, an injured and drug-induced Santa Claus, and a trading of Christmas presents for a bow-wrapped middle finger is one way to jolt us out of our holiday break stupor. It is sort of as though she (being the mysterious lead singer known as Lisa Vitale) is celebrating her misery instead of dwelling in it, which we suppose is one way to deal with depression?

Regardless, there is something about this song (and everything else that we've heard from this secretive trio) that leaves us wanting more. Maybe it's our child-like affinity for wanting to be bad? Or it could be that they sell themselves as anarchic, but are also featured in gaudy Kylie Jenner's lip kit commercial? Or it could also be that the song's melody is damn catchy--with warped auto tune and a dash of reverb on top of a bass-heavy melody as snappy as the lyrics? Yes, that's it.

Thankfully, we'll be hearing a lot more from Terror Jr this year as a sophomore album is expected before we ring in 2019. Despite all the goodness we're getting for our ears, it's pretty obvious that Terror Jr's members will be getting a piece of coal under their Christmas trees next year.
