TOP INDIE SONGS - WEEK 18 PART 2

4/30/15

The world may be a bit crazy right now, but that is where music comes in to help us through it. We’re back with another batch of the best new indie songs of the week featuring the latest from Soko, Tinsmith, K Bleax, a great cover from Rebecca Clements, and much much more. So get comfortable and grab your head phones because we’ve got some seriously great tracks for your listening pleasure.

SOKO - KEATON’S SONG

Today we’re kicking things off with a special live performance of Soko’s heartfelt acoustic guitar-driven track, “Keaton’s Song,” from the “Long Way From Home” Istanbul acoustic sessions. Her soft and raw vocals pack a powerful punch as she sings lines like “you’re sick and tired of seeing me cry,” that make for a great but deeply emotional track that pulls on your heart strings.

FICKLE FRIENDS - COULD BE WRONG

I’m guessing you’ll need a little pick me up after that Soko track, so here’s Fickle Friends and their bouncy new single, “Could Be Wrong.” Featuring groovy guitar and bass, light and airy vocals, and bubbly synths once the chorus hits, it’s a charming and bouncy track that puts a unique funk-inspired spin on the indie pop sound (and it’s going to be stuck in your head so don’t try to fight it).

TWINSMITH - DUST

Omaha natives Twinsmith (so naturally they’d be signed to Saddle Creek Records) are back with the lead single from their upcoming sophomore album, Alligator Years. “Dust” is a comforting track lead by sparkling guitars that slowly build in intensity throughout the song’s duration, along with mellow vocals and ghostly “ooohs” that give off a classic ’90’s indie-rock vibe that I totally love.

REBECCA CLEMENTS - BOY’S DON’T CRY-THE CURE

UK-based singer-songwriter Rebecca Clements does a beautiful, stripped-down cover of The Cure’s classic song, “Boys Don’t Cry,” and I can’t get enough of it. Featuring nothing but her lonely electric guitar, subtle bass, and her captivating vocals, Clements manages to make the track all her own.

K BLEAX - SO SPIRITUAL

Up and coming singer-composer K Bleax demands your attention with her slow-burning yet powerful new single, “So Spiritual.” Her delicately haunting vocals serve as the perfect contrast to the dark and fuzzy electronic elements and booming bass that carry the track throughout its duration. This track will totally stay with you long after you listen.

HAUNT - VIDEO DREAMS

“Video Dreams” is the debut single from brand new synth-pop group Haunt, and I cannot get enough of their ‘80s new wave sound. The track features wonderfully retro-sounding synths that pulsate throughout the track, steady bass, and swelling electronics that blend in with the echoey vocals quite nicely. If you’re into New Order, Echo & the Bunnymen, or basically anything that’s ‘80s and synth-driven, then you’ll totally love this band.

ALMA - WATCHER

New Los Angeles-based singer Alma takes us on a gorgeous journey with her blissful new single, “Watcher.” The electronic pop track is carried by soaring atmospherics, uplifting synths, and a punchy beat that comes in with the chorus just after the 1-minute mark. Her vocals are super delicate and breathy which makes the track extra dreamy. It’s easily one of my favorite tracks of the week!

FEMME - S.O.S. (NZCA LINES REMIX)

London-based producer NZCA Lines took Femme’s sassy single “S.O.S.” and gave it a synth-heavy futuristic makeover. With the addition of a spacey-sounding keys, dreamy electronic elements, and lots of claps, it’s a slow-grooving remix that you might just love more than the original (no offense, Femme.)

THE MASKS - SAY GOODBYE

The Masks are going to help us end things with their mellow slow-burning new single, “Say Goodbye.” It’s a beautiful track featuring melancholy piano, haunting dual vocals, subtle bass, and a fantastic R&B-sounding beat that gives the track some extra edge.

So there you have it—even more of the best indie tracks of the week to keep your ears busy. See you next time!
