TOP ELECTRO HOUSE - WEEK 24 2014
Hey BitCandy-ers,
Here's another list of songs that's sure to make you listen to at least some of them. Also contained within this post are a list of song names, with artist names attached and stupid blurbs about each one of those songs and/or artists. If you find yourself reading every word on this page, congratulations, you've won a special prize. The prize will be revealed at the very bottom of the page.
I hope that you enjoy every word, song, artist, prize.
PHARRELL - GUST OF WIND (FT. DAFT PUNK) (AUTOGRAF REMIX)
The original was very disappointing. Pharrell came to Tomas and Guy and was like, "You guys sort of owe me. I did TWO bangers on your album, can y'all feature on mine?" and Daft Punk were like, "Nah" and Pharrell was like, "Too bad. You gotta." and then the Punkers phoned it in like they weren't the greatest legends of all time or something.
Fortunately for us, Autograf saw something in that track, and outside of having the filter all the way up for 60-70% of this song, slams some badass future funky bass on us for the hook.
The parts that aren't straight filtered away are quite fun and remind me how good Daft Punk and Pharrell are at making noises through machines.
PEGBOARD NERDS - HERE IT COMES
Pegboard Nerds popping some dubstep in our ears. These guys are always releasing new, big shit. They're part of this new scene coming up that can't and won't be stopped. They're constantly making tracks that impress me on a production level, but do little to impress me on a "oh this is an interesting thing I've never heard before" level. But fuck it, they make kids dance and I'm an old man.
PORTER ROBINSON - LIONHEARTED (FEAT. URBAN CONE)
Porter "Oh no, nobody is going to like my new record, it's SOOOOOOOO different" Robinson is proving that his music isn't as different as he was exaggerating it to be. This to me sounds like pretty safe main stage hit banger music. In fact, I bet you 100 dollars I hear this song 4-7 times at the main stage next weekend at EDC LV. But that isn't to say it isn't fucking awesome. Kind of sounds to me like he's just got too much internet / social media in his hands and probably should have just shut the fuck up and released some new music minus the hype.
We all would have still liked you, Porter. I promise.
TOTALLY ENORMOUS EXTINCT DINOSAURS - YOUR LOVE (REMIXES)
These two remixes couldn't be more different. But considering how good the source material is, I'm quite pleased to hear two fantastic tracks from some of the best dudes making dance music. Waze & Odyssey taking this track funky and deeper than T.E.E.D. could have dreamed. Fake Blood making that bass acid as fuck while still keeping it deeper than I'd ever heard from before. Can't stop bouncing to either.
PHARRELL WILLIAMS - FRONTIN' FEAT. JAY Z (DISCLOSURE RE-WORK)
To be completely honest (and when am I not?), I have no idea if i like this track or not. Everytime i listen to it I'm like "nah" but yet I keep listening to it again and again and again. I think that means I do like it? I don't fucking know. Jesus life is hard.
Honestly, if you like any of the artists listed above, you're probably gonna love this track. It's very Pharrell-y and very Disclosure-y. Only kind of Jay-Z-y though.
NETSKY - RUNNING LOW FEAT. BETH DITTO
Beth Ditto from the Gossip??? Fuck Yes. Her and Netsky are a match made in heaven that no one (literally no one. no, not you. or you) could have predicted. Big banger DnB track with one of the best chick singers in Indie Rock belting on top of it. Beth, you a badass. Good to see you take the shift over to real dance music.
MATRIXXMAN - THE CARAVAN
I love it weird. I love it techno. I love it funky. I love it haunting. This is my summer jam. I'm just gonna sit in my bedroom in the darkness in all white clothes and stare in a mirror while I listen to this song on loop for hours on end.
THE CRYSTAL METHOD - NAME OF THE GAME
Just listen again. Do you even remember how good this shit is?
SOMBEAR - FIND ME AT NIGHT
This is fucking awesome. Some chill-ass trippy Drum & Bass. Chill & Bass. Drum & Trip.
APHEX TWIN - WINDOWLICKER (EXTENDED PLAY REWORK)
Kind of never thought the main melody from Windowlicker would be this dancey…ever? But here it is, and not only is it instantly recognizable as Aphex Twin, it's also one of the best disco dance parties of the year. I'm so confused.

JK, there is no prize. Till next week!
- KURT
About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
