TOP DANCE SONGS - WEEK 16 2014

Coachella was this weekend and I wasn't there per se, but I did go to Indio to try and sneak in to all the No-Chella parties. Armed with a Go-Pro on my head, I did get into Coachella parking lot, before the FIRST security guard on the way to the campgrounds was like, "come on dude, fuck off."  So I did fuck off, partied with Disclosure at the LED Hard Rock Hotel and then after partied with my homies at their house in Indio. It's just magical being down there. You can feel the party in the air and the dust in your lungs.

Whatever, I'll be there next weekend, so expect my post to be a little late (and make about as much sense as a man with one remaining brain cell can make).

AVICII - HEY BROTHER (AVICII BY AVICII)

Avicii does some weird ass shit. Last year he showed up to Ultra with a country band and made all of the bros confused. This year he tried to show up a whole remix album of his album, True: Avicii by Avicii, but had to get his pancreas removed or some other bullshit. This is a cool idea though, remix yourself on every track, turn them all into bangers. Please Avicii, keep being inventive.  It may not always work, but sometimes it will. Do it for the sometimes. Cause here, he just went and made  all these tracks that I already thought were pretty good, pretty gooder. 

DISCLOSURE X THE FRIEND WITHIN - THE MECHANISM

Disclosure is the real deal. They got hits for days and everybody is paying attention. Latch is going to be a summer anthem AGAIN. But Disclosure don't give a fuck… they shed their pop sensibilities and drop a club banger right as their festival run begins. The Friend Wthin has got that kicking acid bass and the howard brothers wanted to play with it. This is the Disclosure I like, club Disclosure. Y'all can have your White Noize's and F for You's cause I fuck with the Mechanism. 

ALEX METRIC & OLIVER

DUH, you put these two names together, you're gonna get the best disco in the universe. This is their second track together and it's straight up like mainlining disco heroin straight into your arm. Dance moves become uncontrollable, you just collapse with the vibe. Never stop making music together guys, PLEASE. Between this and Hope, you're the new supergroup to watch for in 2014.

OH BE CLEVER - NEXT TO YOU (ELEPHANTE REMIX)

Indie Dance was lost for a LONG minute, but it's finally getting the re-emergence it deserves. We had it back before the EDM bubble and now that the bubble is about to burst. Everybody is down to fuck around with some bloghouse 2.0. This is that summer vibe pool party disco shit. Who wants big progressive house anthems at a pool party? That shit is too intense -- you're gonna get splashed. Let's just vibe. Cool?

KILL PARIS - FOREPLAY EP MINIMIX

There are not enough dudes in the scene using funk. Plenty of dudes get funky, but no dudes are straight up making funk (except for Gramatik, duh). Every track Kill Paris comes out with is pure funk gold. I appreciate him as a man standing alone between scenes -- he chills between the EDM world and the hippie bass world, and rides that surfboard on the middle so goddamn well… he's like an electronic Kelly Slater (the only surfer who's name I know, lol). Good thing Skrillex sees something in this fool… dropping this shit on OWSLA (the best label in the world right now). Can't wait for a full stream/download of this shit.

WILLY JOY - GEEKS

Trap killed dubstep, and trap is dying now too. Gotta have mad respect for the dudes that still keep pumping out banging trap.  Making that shit before it blew up and will be making it long afterwards. Willy Joy is making some Carnival trap right here that reminds me to shut the fuck up every once in a while. Trap ain't dead. Trap ain't never gonna be dead.

THE KLAXONS - LOVE FREQUENCY (TOM ROWLANDS REMIX)

Anything one of the Chemical Brothers touches. Tom Rowlands is making the best acid out there right now and I want to eat it all up… :) This is such good filler between Chemical Brothers records… SUCH GOOD.

DALLASK & HENRY FONG - BLACKMAIL (RADIO EDIT)

Ain't nothing wrong with a big fun electro track. These guys are both up and coming as fuck and they're just helping that by making a bunch of cool calls on this track. The progressive house breakdown in the middle, into the hard as fuck electro drops… mikey likey…i wish my name was mikey that'd be my exit on every song.

ALVIN RISK + HANS ZIMMER - ELECTRO SUITE REMIX

Alvin Risk and Hans Zimmer made an ELECTRO [lol, he's the villain, get IT? i hate myself] track together for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Fuck Yes. This is too perfect to put my dumb opinion on. Just fucking masters being masters together for a movie that I'm now slightly more excited for, 'cause they're doing at least one thing right so far. Shit, is this gonna be good?

FUTURE FUNK SQUAD - DISEASE (FT. SLIGHTER)

Some quiet, ethereal composition with creepy horror vocals and dubstep / Drum & Bass sounds. I like it, but future funk squad is such a misnomer. This ain't funk. It's FUN but not FUNK. Maybe they should change their name? Here's an idea -- FTR FNK SQD.  Nah.

ENVISION - WHIP 'EM (DIDN'T WE?)

The Sensori Collective are a crew of Beat Producers in San Diego doing super cool stuff. They just dropped their Dawn of the Dead mix tape, featuring Samples from the classic Horror film. The best one on it comes from homie, Envision.
