SPOTIFY: WEEKLY CHART - WEEK 5

2/2/19

There is no way to predict exactly who will appear on We Are: The Guard’s Weekly Chart on Spotify. Even I don’t have that insider knowledge. What I do know is what to look for when it comes to the kind of music that makes it on the charts. So if you are looking to land on the top 5, top 10, heck top 20 the secret is in the music, melody, lyrics, beat, rhythm, tempo, chord progression, cadence. When was it release? Do I like it? Will they like it? Does it make me cry? Does it make me dance? Does it make my body feel something .. anything? Sure, this is a lot to think about, but thankfully this week’s artists did the hard work for us … all we had to do was filter and pick out the gems.

In absolutely no particular order or preference here are some of this week’s hot numbers that have yet to hit the mainstream charts.

BECK - TARANTULA (Music Inspired By The Film Roma)

If you’ve seen the Academy Award-nominated film Roma, by Alfonso Cuaron, there is a huge possibility that you didn’t hear Beck cover Colourboxes’ single “Tarantula.” Nope, this orchestral like rendition was created after Cuaron called up Beck and asked if he’d like to contribute his talent and make Cuaron’s dreams come true. Beck accepted and together with his father, they composed this beautiful arrangement for the world to hear. #thankyou #soundofangelscrying

EVI JAI - MR. GREEN

Independent artist Evi Jai wants her music to mean something to listeners, and with “Mr. Green” she delivers somethign you can feel good about. Life may or may not be going the way you planned but all is good with a puff of the green stuff. Light up and enjoy the mellow positive vibes coming from an artist who is on the rise, and we’re not talking about her getting high.

GIRL IN RED - WATCH YOU SLEEP.

Move over U2, you and you’re “every breath you take ain’t got nothing on girl in red. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the greatest stalker anthem of all time:  “I don’t ever wanna leave/ I’ll watch you sleep/ And listen to you breathe/ I don’t ever wanna leave.” Some would refer to it as a love song, but my paranoia and anxiety don’t allow me to think different.

CHAKA KHAN - HELLO HAPPINESS

When it comes to leaving your bad vibes on the dance floor you can count on the Queen of Soul Chaka Khan to help you dance yourself into better spirits. She uses her “Hello happiness goodbye loneliness” video to spread awareness about AIDS. Viewing the video drives us to the conclusion of: don’t cheat on yo spouse! You can expect more dance worthy tracks fro her upcoming album Hello Happiness, out Feb. 14th.

BROODS - FALLING APART

Broods gets us. When everything seems to be going down the crapper this is the song to play. The bedroom pop single “Falling Apart” will be there to embrace you with it’s gentle whisper like vocals and looping melody that will rock you to sleep like a baby.

The fun doesn’t stop with these five singles Oh no! There is plenty more for you to enjoy right below. If you have yet to follow us on Spotify, immediatley stop what you are doing and click the dang follow button.

We’ll be back next week with an all new curated playlist.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
