Should Miike Snow Change Their Name?
How are you guys feeling about the first song leak from the new Miike Snow album? To us, it sounds ... pretty damn lackluster. It seems like a rather disappointing follow-up to their self-titled 2009 debut which had a slew of awesomely catchy-yet-introspective indie pop tracks like "Animal," "Silvia," "Burial" and "Black and Blue." The new song, "Devil's Work," features nice synth and brass work and interesting lyrics, but ... it seems to be lacking something major (a hook, maybe?)
Oh, and they've also released a video for the song, in which nothing happens except a guy runs down a desert highway in slow motion. Um, OK?
Here's hoping the rest of the new album, to be released some time in 2012, sounds a lot better than "Devil's Work." Otherwise, Miike Snow might want to consider changing their name to something a lot less cool... Engelbert Humperdiiinck, perhaps?

Lyrics to "Devil's Work":
The light from the primitive sun
You I really want to have
Before I lost this side of her
My man, he finally closes the door
My hands, I feel like I've been here before
She has already spoken
Anyway
There's no reason to get hurt
You don't need to sell your shirt
To do the devil's work
You finally found your place
You know you'll always work
I saw someone who looked like you on
The platform of a railway station
From a younger era
The lights in the penthouse was still on
We all need somebody to love
My man, he quietly closes the door
My hands, I feel like I've been here before
She has already spoken
Anyway
There's no reason to get hurt
You don't need to sell your shirt
To do the devil's work.
You finally found your place
You know it's always worse
You know it's always worse
