RINA SAWAYAMA IS THE WORST BEST FRIEND IN “BAD FRIEND”
London pop artist Rina Sawayama is great at a lot of things … like making catchy lo-fi pop tunes that linger in your head for days. She’s also like really ridiculously good looking and slays catwalks. One thing, however, that she completely sucks at is being a good friend and she herself admits it in her latest single “Bad Friend.”
“I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
So don't ask me where I've been
Been avoiding everything
'Cause I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
I'm a bad friend, yeah”
Crazy thing is that 10 out of 10 times I would probably most likely choose to have Sawayama as MY crappy friend.
RINA SAWAYAMA IS THE WORST BEST FRIEND IN “BAD FRIEND”
I went in thinking “Bad Friend” was going to be a “look at me .. screw you kind of moment, but immediately after hitting play I felt bad for Rina and whoever she had a falling out with. It’s truly an emotional, nostalgic, almost apologetic sounding letter.
It really does take a humble person with a huge heart to be able to admit that they weren’t as good as a friend as they thought they were and that they are willing to fix what needs fixing.
“Put your hands up if you're not good at this stuff
(Should we put the bridges back together?)
Maybe I'm a bad friend.”
I dedicate this song to all my crappy, no-good friends. You know who you are, you horrible people you! I guess I myself am included on that boat. It will do me no good to think about where I went wrong and my story is not as spicy as Sawayama and her naked karaoke night in Tokyo.
Hmmm… I wonder if things would have turned out differently for the friendship had they sung to a different song other than “Call Me Maybe” or if they decided to have kept their clothes on. I’m pretty sure I would offend a lot of my bad friends if I were to take my layers off.
Anyways …
Rina Sawayama’s debut album SAWAYAMA is out now and available. Listen, enjoy, and share it with all your bad friends.
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
