NEW ARTIST FINDS: TOVE STYRKE

Tove Styrke is a 22 year old Swedish singer and songwriter who was actually a contestant on Swedish Idol in 2009 and made it all the way to third place (and I bet made more of an impact than Ruben Studdard ever did…nope? Don’t remember him? Never mind). But now this new artist is making a name for herself and leaving her Idol past behind with new material and a sound that is perfect for fans of fellow Swedish pop-icons like Robyn and Annie who want some more adorably awesome electro-pop in their life.

TOVE STYRKE - HIGH AND LOW

In a way “High and Low” reminds me of Robyn’s “Indestructible,” which probably has something to do with the fact that I’m totally in love with this song. Featuring 80’s-inspired synths, a peppy drum machine beat, and lyrics like “I feel your arms around me/ But I don’t feel the heat,” it’s a great pop song about falling out of love while not making you want to stop dancing.

Remember the Ting Tings? Yeah, I forgot about them too until I heard Styrke’s electro-pop masterpiece, “Even If I’m Loud it Doesn’t Mean I’m Talking to You.” Her vocals sound like a bratty cheerleader yelling at you and I’m very much into it. RAC’s additions of crazy synths and a more bass-heavy beat really take the track to the next level, all while keeping the peppy feel of the original. This is her latest track so I’m very excited to hear what she comes out with next.

TOVE STYRKE - STALKER IN YOUR SPEAKER

“Stalker In Your Speaker” features robotic sounding synth notes that make you feel like you’re stuck in a Super Nintendo game and lyrics that are an awesome mix of creepy and cheesy (think Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi”). With lyrics like, “made a thousand copies of myself/ I send them out to you,” you won’t know if you should feel flattered or terrified, which is exactly how I like my pop songs.

I have a feeling Tove Styrke is about to blow up in America very, very soon. So be in the know with the cool kids and show her some support by “liking” her Facebook page!
