NEW ARTIST FINDS: MIYNT
New Swedish pop songstress Miynt has us completely smitten with her indie rock meets electropop sound. The singer-songwriter-producer first grabbed our attention with her beautiful melancholy cover of Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” but now her original material is finally taking center stage. Complex electronics, sassy rock elements, and infectiously moody vocals create a sound that’s perfect for fans of dark-pop artists like Tove Lo, Banks, or MØ.
MIYNT - CIVIL WAR
“Civil War” is her very first single, and it’s an impressive self-produced track packed with beautiful electronics and her captivating vocal style. A slow and steady beat carries you into the amazing chorus that hits you hard at the 1:00 minute mark with fast paced ticking beats, bubbly electronics, and a seriously awesome vocal melody as she sings “baby I have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 lives,” making for a catchy and totally fun track that still manages to embody a moody edge.
MIYNT - NICK DRAKE
“Nick Drake” serves as a solid follow-up single that I totally love. Pounding drums and distorted backing vocals kick things off with a punk edge, as things grow more and more dizzying with talk-singing verses and distorted bass. As the track continues, slight changes are introduced such as background electronics like lo-fi synths along with some frantic tambourine. The track ends with her repeating the line “we don’t care about the radio,” which I guarantee will be stuck in your head long after you listen.
MIYNT - BABY ONE MORE TIME
The first thing I heard from her was her unexpectedly morose cover of Britney Spears’ 1999 breakout hit “...Baby One More Time.” Ghostly backing vocals, soft atmospherics, barely-there guitar and sombre piano replace the tween pop of the original as Miynt’s whispery vocals make for an emotional and very different take on the tune. Trust me, once you listen you’ll be completely obsessed.
