BEST NEW TRACKS: JOHN GRANT "GMF"
If you're anything like me, then the first part of your New Year is spent catching up on all the music you missed out on or simply overlooked last year. One such record is John Grant's Pale Green Ghosts and this cool song, "GMF."
Grant's name has been in the news a lot recently, but that's because of his involvement/discovery of Iceland's xx. But his solo game is still on point, as large sections of Pale Green Ghosts. With "GMF" (you'll have to listen to the song to figure out what the abbreviation means) he's written one of the greatest narcissistic ballads of all-time. Put this one alongside "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get" and "I Never Said I Was Deep" as the Pantheon cuts of the genus. It's about time an American singer-songwriter showed the Brits that we can be just as big of self-indulgent pricks as they almost always are.

Finally, here are the lyrics for John Grant "GMF":
You could probably say I'm difficult.
I probably talk too much.
I over analyze and overthink things.
Yes, it's a nasty crutch.
I'm usually only waiting for you to stop talking
So that I can.
Concerning two-way streets, I have to say
That I am not a fan.
But I am the greatest motherfucker
That you're ever gonna meet
From the top of my head
Down to the tips of the toes on my feet.
So go ahead and love me while it's still a crime,
And don't forget you could be laughing
65 percent more of the time.
You could be laughing
65 percent more of the time.
Half of the time I think I'm in some movie.
I play the underdog of course.
I wonder who they'll get to play me.
Maybe they could dig up Richard Burton's corpse.
I am not who you think I am.
I am quite angry--which I barely can conceal.
You think I hate myself, but it's you I hate
Because you have the nerve to make me feel.
But I am the greatest motherfucker
That you're ever gonna meet
From the top of my head
Down to the tips of the toes on my feet.
So go ahead and love me while it's still a crime,
And don't forget you could be laughing
65 percent more of the time.
You could be laughing
65 percent more of the time.
I should've practiced my scales.
I should not be attracted to males.
But you said that I should learn to love myself.
Well, make up your mind, Dr. Frankenstein.
'Cause I am the greatest motherfucker
That you're ever gonna meet
From the top of my head
Down to the tips of the toes on my feet.
So go ahead and love me while it's still a crime,
And don't forget you could be laughing
65 percent more of the time.
You could be laughing
63 percent more of the time.
You could be laughing
25 percent more of the time.
Thanks for stopping by Bitcandy, where we're usually only waiting for you to stop talking so that we can.
