INDIE POP - WEEK 7 - 2020

2/13/20

Can you feel the love? I said can you feel the love coming from all of us here at We Are: The Guard?! I sure hope so because this week’s Best Indie Pop songs are entirely dedicated to each one of you our Valentinos ... that’s you guys. Anywho if you are in need of a last vday gift you can use the below playlist because each one of the songs were specifically hand picked due to their love references. Enjoy the latest from X Ambassadors, Hayley Williams, Anne-Marie, and more.

LIL NAS X - RODEO (FEAT. NAS)

How exactly does Lil Nas X’s “Rodeo fit into the love theme. Well … hello … what’s not to love about this version of his single. The once cowboy turns vampire and all while Nas, the big Nas, the original Nas joins him and destroys the track. Yass on so many levels. This people is bliss.

FLY BY MIDNIGHT - LOVELY (FEAT. BETTY WHO)

Betty Who joins Fly By Midnight and helps the duo take “Lovely” to a lovelier level. “Inches between us, countin' in down/Midnight's emotion, drivin' around/I look over at you, and you look at me too/And if I just lean in and get out of my head/Don't know what you would do.” One could say that this is the like a song about infatuation, the love part comes later.

X AMBASSADORS - EVERYTHING SOUNDS LIKE A LOVE SONG

Yes, in fact everything between now and tomorrow will sound like a love song. It’s like magic and there is glitter everywhere except X Ambassadors track is so opposite of a feel good love song. This right here will leave you in tears.

HAYLEY WILLIAMS - SIMMER

Guilty! This is so not a love song, This is emotion. Full on rage. And it’s the rage that helps us surpass what once tormented us. Hayley Williams, we love you girl.

KIM PETRAS - REMINDS ME

If love has gone wrong in your life, no pron, Kim Petras has got you boo. She knows exactly how it feels to have your heart torn out. Just know, that life does get better and then there are other people in this world who love you and there are others who can’t wait to love you.

ANDY GRAMMAR - BEST OF YOU (FEAT, ELLE KING)

How could this not be like the best song to play to your  loved one. Andy Grammar puts ot perfectly “To me, this song is about loving someone through all of the layers of the good and the bad.” So exciting.

OLIVIA O’BRIEN - WAS IT ALL IN MY HEAD?

“I feel so stupid, so used, so lost and confused / But I still want you, yeah yeah
I should know better, it never turns to happy ever / After I know we won't end up together now.” For somebody to love someone after they have been used must mean that they had one really hawt steamy relationship.

ANNE-MARIE - BIRTHDAY

So what happens post breakup? What is a broken hearted soul to do? Cry? Nope. Eat their emotions? Nope! You have a birthday and you give yourself all the love you deserve. It’s your birthday and you’re going to party it up because I want you to..

BENEE - SUPALONELY FEAT. GUS DAPPERTON

The world has been sleeping on Benee. She’s got a coolness about her that has me eating up everything she’s put out. On “Supalonely” Benee makes us feel the emptiness that she has going on inside. It’s sad but it sounds so good.

GRIMES - DELETE FOREVER

Mind blown. Grimes SLAYYYYS! At first listen it sounds epic until you realize how truly sad it really is. It’s about the opioid epidemic and how people are dying because of it. If anything, Grimes will make you feel.

Ok so the list wasn’t specifically about love nor were they really love songs, but they were pretty stellar. Now remember, getting a tattoo on your face with baes name on it is too much of a commitment in this life, so gift this playlist instead. See ya next week!

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
