CHILL OUT MUSIC - WEEK 46 PART 2 2014
As we slowly make the shift from buying pumpkin spiced everything to peppermint flavored caffeinated beverages, the weather is getting nice and chilly, making it prime chill out time (that rhyme was totally unintentional, but hey - it works!). So grab that comfy pair of leggings that your boyfriend hates and your disgusting, holiday-themed drink of choice, because we have some of the best chill out tracks of the week to put your mind at ease. We have some great new stuff from up-and-comers Billie Black, Marz Leon, and Parra for Cuva, just to name a few, so I’ll shut up and let you read on while I go grab a vanilla latte (see— I stick to the classics.)
BILLIE BLACK - BLACK & WHITE
Today we’re starting things off on a smooth, jazzy note with 19 year old singer-songwriter, Billie Black. Her latest song, “Black & White,” is full of electric guitar and a beat that slowly builds with softly swelling synths. Billie’s velvety soft vocals have a 90s R&B flare that tie the whole thing together and create a totally unique experience.
HNTR - OLD OAK
Indie-folk band, HNTR, will take you on a blissfully mellow joinery with their laid-back track, “Old Oak.” Featuring softly plucked guitars, acoustic drums, and silky, echo-heavy vocals, these Londoners will put you in a relaxed, dreamy mood in no time.
MARZ LEON - LEVITATION
Atmospheric electronic elements that slowly swell draw you in instantly to Marz Leon’s latest track, “Levitation.” Once the clicky electronic beat comes in shortly after the 1-minute mark, you’ll be completely sucked in to the track’s uplifting, dramatic vibe and Marz’s strong vocals. (Click here to check out her “New Artist” feature we did earlier this year.)
PARRA FOR CUVA - CHAMPA FEAT. MONSOONSIREN
Beginning with softly sparkling guitars and some crazy falsetto vocals, Parra For Cuva’s “Champa” will demand your full attention right from the beginning. I love how the track slowly evolves over time as more taps and elements are added to the beat, creating a beautiful atmospheric vibe that keeps things interesting throughout.
GROUPER - HOLDING
Oregon’s own Liz Harris, aka Grouper, showcases her whispery soft vocals on her latest track, “Holding.” Featuring not much besides her piano and barely distinguishable vocals (indistinguishable in a positive way!), you and your problems will drift off into dreamland instantly with this incredibly soothing track.
BAY - MAN MADE
South London’s BAY are creating something truly special with their soulful track, “Man Made.” The strong and echoey vocals will catch you by surprise and draw you in while the beat is busy yet controlled, being made up of various clicks and claps. It all works together wonderfully with the tropical sounding flutes (at least, I think that's a flute?) and the various electronic elements that are going on in this unique, electropop track.
HAYDEN CALNIN - SHUTTERS (ACOUSTIC REWORK)
We here at BitCandy introduced you to singer-songwriter Hayden Calnin earlier this year, and we’re pleased to bring you his acoustic reworking of his mellow track, “Shutters.” Featuring his smokey vocals, acoustic guitar, and a soft beat made up of claps, it's a subtle yet solid track. The chimes that are added toward the end of the song serve as a nice touch and make for the perfect ending.
DRIP-133 - ULTIMUM FEAT. HNRK
We’re going to end things with Drip-133’s haunting new track, “Ultimum” (featuring HNRK). Packed with looping vocal samples that are slightly on the creepy side and a clicky electronic beat, the track slowly changes and evolves over time. Coming in at just under 3 minutes, it's a strange yet appealing track from this mysterious producer that will make you want to discover more of his material.

And there you have it — all of the quality tracks you need for your relaxing part of the week. See ya!
