It’s October and I’m ready to curl up with a cozy sweater and pop a pie in the oven while listening to these brand new indie pop releases! From Shamir’s incredible new album, to a new Julia Michaels jam we’re covering a whole spectrum of indie pop.
On a side note, we’re 26 days away from the election here in the US. PLEASE vote! Head over to https://www.vote.org/ to check your registration, learn how to vote by mail, get reminders, or find your polling location! Sidebar over- on with the music!
“SHOWER” - DYLN
Canadian born and Los Angeles based, DYLN is a pop/R&B vocal, songwriting, and production powerhouse. On her new song “Shower,” DYLN washes away the negativity. Empowering and with a driving beat, “Shower” continues to solidify DYLN’s trademarks of skillful vocals and great songs supported by great production.
“LIE TO ME” - QUEEN NAIJA FT. LIL DURK
Queen Naija’s missunderstood album will be out 10/30, and her new single “Lie To Me” ft. Lil Durk could not have us more excited! On “Lie To Me,” Queen Naija and Lil Durk team up to discuss what sounds like a pretty toxic relationship, but the video directed by Teyana Taylor is quite lighthearted.
“STFU” - PHEM
On “stfu,” phem argues with a toxic partner, as well as internal negative thoughts. She is bold and honest. The production and melodies are just the right mix of rock and pop to support the unapologetic lyrics.
“BAD NEWS” - LANY
On “bad news,” the guys of LANY don’t want you to catch feelings. Synth-pop meets a hint of country, and maybe even some Christian vibes on their new album, Mama’s Boy? I’m not sure about all that, but I am sure that “bad news” is lowkey a jam.
“GOT THE LOVE” - TERRELL MORRIS
Toronto’s Terrell Morris is smooth as hell on “Got The Love.” The track is amazing, the lyrics are witty, and his voice sounds great. Switching feels at the end to a piano driven, Frank Ocean-esq section about travelling to Paris, Morris only displays more of the unique places his talent can reach.
“TED TALK” - SAD SUMMER
“TED Talk” by sad summer is the end of the summer jam we all needed. It’s catchy, it’s edgy, and ready to be used in your next TikTok. While the lyrics talk about heartbreak, that line “Thank you for coming to my TED Talk” can be used in literally any scenario.
“BAD LOT” - SOUNDQ
According to SOUNDQ, “Bad Lot” is an anthem for “for the misfits.” On this techno-meets-pop jam, SOUNDQ shares poetic lyrics and skillful production. Short for “Sound Quake,” SoundQ is the project of Kuba Kubica who is a producer and vocalist from Poland.
“LIE LIKE THIS” - JULIA MICAHELS
All hail the queen! Julia Micahels is back with “Lie Like This,” and it’s an indie pop banger. With her signature unique vocals and clever lyrics, she sings: “The truth is I can’t resist / Whenever we lie like this.”
“DIET” - SHAMIR
Shamir’s much anticipated self titled album is out and it’s awesome. He further proves that he doesn’t belong in just one genre box, as it sounds like 90s indie rock if the 90s happened in the future, mixed with folk, country, and his own unique flair. “Diet” is folky with grunge production, and begs you to roll your windows down and scream along.
“NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG” - ELLA MAI
Ella Mai has returned in the best way. She’s not trying to give us “Boo’d Up” version 2, but instead a new, matured version of what she does best. “Not Another Love Song” is about having feelings for someone, but not wanting to say it out loud.
Arielle Tindel is from Cleveland, Ohio. She recently graduated from Berklee College of Music with degrees in Music Business Marketing and Songwriting. In her free time, Arielle can be found gardening or playing bass.
