BEST NEW INDIE POP: RUBY FIELDS - I WANT
This is a new song, with a rising artist and a feel from another era. The era we’re specifically referring to is the 90’s. We wouldn’t be surprised if Ruby Fields revealed “I Want” is an ode to The Cranberries, even though she looks young enough to have been born well after the band had already retired.
RUBY FIELDS - I WANT
With all that said, it’s easy to proclaim the Australian rookie’s debut is catchy pop-rock that would be difficult for anyone to hate. In her Facebook bio, she describes herself as an average girl “that started busking at the age of 13 and began playing at venues around Sydney.” Her casual social media presence is a far cry from the manufactured biographies we’re used to seeing on musician’s official platforms and it also explains why we’re so curious about her. Fields is that sort of relatable. She is the kind of girl we can imagine switching on the reverb loudly in her family’s garage. The lyrics on the track go well with her narrative too: “"I wanna be more than my parents' opinions / I wanna be more than my ATAR."
We wonder what she has his store for her EP, set to release before the year’s end.
