BEST NEW INDIE POP: KISSY - ELECTRIC DREAMS
Sasha Ortiz is Kissy, a new singer-slash-producer. You may not have heard of Kissy before, but it's possible you've seen her perform--she's played backup to the likes of The Kills. Now, she's utilizing what she's learned from her time with Alison Mosshart and producer/co-writer Mark Solomich to go solo. As her avatar hints at, her music sounds about as plush and joyful as a pucker up.
KISSY - ELECTRIC DREAMS
It's pretty impressive for a new artist to come up with such a well defined signature sound. Her array of singles are all pure pop with an electric tinge that makes it difficult to resist a subconscious foot tap or head bob. In line with the rest of the songs we've heard from her, this particular song adds a perfect dose of playful fodder to our genre-diverse playlist.
"Electric Dreams" sounds just like the title -- dreamy pop punctuated by electric vibrations. It's all about hopes and desires, and the upbeat melody makes it feel like those dreams are possible. She belts with high, long notes: "Electric dream/ They make me feel/Like someone real" and finished off with a trio of "oh yeahs" in case you didn't believe her before. It's all very anthemic, sort of like a Katy Perry girl-power ballad, only far less cheesy.
