BEST NEW INDIE POP: FILOUS FEAT. KLEI - FOR LOVE
In anticipation for his new EP For Love, Austrian producer Filous has released the title track, and in turn offers a cleverly crafted and original pop song to the electronic production table. Both Filous and his guest vocalist Klei struggle with an age-old question though, one that has been plaguing humanity since Meatloaf’s era: What would you give up for love?
FILOUS - FOR LOVE (FT. KLEI)
“For Love” follows the traditional trajectory of a pop tune, with Klei’s blissful vocals brightening up the track’s air. But where it starts to differ and meander into another realm of liveliness is in its chorus. “For Love’s” chorus sounds like a singer’s circle; like a bunch of folks at a party chanting for one more round of shots. It should ring peculiar; I don’t necessarily want to support Klei giving up on going to bars and quitting her job for the sake of love. But the carefree-tinged shouts in the chorus and the soundbyte of someone going “whoo!” is making me root for Klei’s and Filous’ new love-or-nothing lifestyle.
So, We Are: The Guard readers: What would you give up for love? Gluten? Friday nights out? I admire the song’s resolve -- because the most I’m willing to part with in the name of love are my collection of hats and maybe tequila. But don’t even think about touching my Chromebook, Cupid.
Filous’ EP, For Love, will be out soon, but two songs off the release are streamable now on Soundcloud, along with his impressive collection of remixes.
