BEST NEW INDIE: FRILLS - WE CAN BE FRIENDS
If you are reading this on We Are: The Guard, welcome to a new year of hope, possibilities, and new music. The first one of the year is actually provided by something the Frills released at the end of last year named “We Can Be Friends.”
FRILLS - WE CAN BE FRIENDS
Around for a mere calendar year, Brooklyn-based indie ensemble Frills, is already delivering some of the most pleasurable tunes from a city filled with worthy opposition. While their body of work is not large, what Frills lacks in experience is supplemented by their sheer enthusiasm. On the heels of their debut track, “My Love,” their newest single called “We Can Be Friends” might be one of their most addictive and invigorating jams to date.
There is an unmistakable similarity to Peter Bjorn and John, and that could be some of the best praise I could give such a new band. Listening to “We Can Be Friends,” makes it hard not to picture yourself within a small venue displaying a shoegazey band trying their best to knock the socks off of a half-drunk audience. Skinny jeans and flannel shirts everywhere. Feels like a decade ago, during a simpler times. Luckily, the Frills assures us that no matter what side of issues you are on, we can truly all get along and be friends.
