BEST OF INSTAGRAM - WEEK 21
So much happens so fast that even a weekly music rag wouldn't be able to keep up. That's just the major news items, as well, not even taking into account the window into our favorite musicians' lives that is social media. But that’s why every week, we fine folks here at We Are: The Guard keep tabs on our favorite Instagram posts, lest you missed something. This week, we've got a heartfelt confession from FKA Twigs. You'll see Will Smith ride a motorcycle to outer space. And you'll see Solange with a very special (and unexpected) guest! Here are our favorite Instagram posts from this last week.
FKA Twigs Opens Up About Reproductive Health
FKA Twigs gets candid with her followers about the reasons for her lack of music, these last few years - the producer/songwriter has been suffering from tumours in her uterus, of varying sizes, which she describes as "a fruit bowl of pain."
The fact that Twigs is able to be not only gracious and positive, but even hilarious, speaks to the strength of women who suffer from these issues, even if the greater society won't acknowledge them. And perhaps we should be a little uncomfortable! For those who struggle with understanding women's perspective, read this tweet and find yourself hunching over a bit and reaching for a heating pad.
Will Smith Is Really Good At Wheelies
In this week's update, it seems that Will Smith has never popped a wheelie on a motorbike. He must be a natural, however, as he goes from an explanation to riding through every meme known to the Internet, eventually blasting off into outer space, thanks to a crude (but highly entertaining) video from LA video artist Jas Davis.
King Princess Wants To Start Reading
You'd think this week's hottest IG post would be all about the much-hyped new "Talia" video which just dropped. It's a testament to how obsessed we are (including us here at We Are: The Guard) with this Brooklyn artist, as a simple video with a cheeky wink and a caption about reading books gets over 8000 likes.
Two Door Cinema Club's Steamed Buns
Two Door Cinema Club does more than make infectious indie rock, apparently. Two Door Cinema Club's Alex Trimble enjoys delicious Asian food as well, as we learned via this dangerously drool-worthy Instagram post from LA's Myung In Dumpling. This post checks all of our boxes, here at We Are: The Guard - delicious international food, one of our favorite indie musicians, and a charming wink to send us off.
Tyler The Creator And Solange Take A Gondola Ride
You know someone's royalty when they can get over 300,000 likes on a post without saying a word. Lord knows we'll all be filling in the blanks in the wake of this truly legendary Instagram post showing Queen Solange flashing a brilliant smile with some truly fabulous teardrop earrings next to a very excited Tyler The Creator.
Solange's fans are nearly as excited as Tyler looks in this photo, speculating on the possibility of a collaboration. They're already in a gondola, how hard would it be to drop a couple of bars?
Real Men Cry
13-year old Anthony gets a little emotional in this short Instagram video, talking to his hero, the rapper Logic. Anthony gets a bit choked up when Logic passes him the mic and starts to apologize, but Logic, staying true to his name, drops some words of wisdom on his young fan. "Don't ever apologize for crying. Real men cry! They don't hold that shit in, they deal with it!"
Here's to a new generation of more men like Logic and Anthony.
That about wraps it up for us for this week. Make sure to follow We Are: The Guard on Instagram to see even more daily indie music updates!
