BEST INDIE POP - WEEK 48 2014
Before my brain is deprived of oxygen and I go into a full on raging food coma, I want to give thanks to the fellow readers of BitCandy, the Curators, my amazeball co-workers and the bitching indie artists that made it on the list of the top alternative pop songs for the week. This week’s list is a special one, as I am sure we really needed some feel good dancing vibes. Take a good listen to the songs below; you’re going to want to have them on hand for when you’re ready to sweat the gravy and pie out of your system. Enjoy.
WE ARE TWIN - IN THE MOMENT
Los Angeles based four piece, We Are Twin, released their debut EP, Xtra Love, earlier this month. It was very entertaining to listen through all their songs especially when they are of high quality. In the Moment showcases the band’s high energy state. Filled generously with contagious synths, jagged guitar, and sexy vocals.
SELAH SUE - TOGETHER FEAT. CHILDISH GAMBINO
Selah Sue is not one who sticks to convention. Following on from her breakout album, Selah Sue looks to take it up a notch with bluesy vocals over a cascading RnB backdrop that later is accompanied with Gambino stepping in for a brief verse. The song could have done without Gambino, but that’s just my opinion.
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS - FROOT
Marina and the Diamonds third album, FROOT, will be dropping early 2015. For those of you curious about the direction in music she took for the upcoming album click on play above. It’s heavy on the disco. Froot is described by Lauren Solano as “she [MATD] is sick of “hanging around like a fruit on a tree,” and she demands that someone cut her from the vine, turn her into wine and fill [their] cup up.” Indulge yourselves above.
A$AP ROCKY - FUCKIN’ PROBLEMS FT XAVIER DUN (VIJAY & SOFIA ZLATKO, KASÚAL REMIX)
Producers Vijay & Sofia continue to raise the bar and seem to be establishing themselves as a hot new act to keep an eye on this coming new year. Their latest remix is a sophisticated sexy makeover based mainly on a slinky deep house beat.
CLEAN BANDIT - SHOW ME LOVE FEAT. ELISABETH TROY
Some things are better left untouched, and I know Clean Bandit was just trying to pay tribute to 90’s pop sensation Robin S, but they didn’t even come close. For comparision, here’s the OG:
ROBIN S - SHOW ME LOVE
TKAY MAIDZA - U-HUH ( LUKE MILLION REMIX )
Consistently delivering on excellence, Australian producer Luke Million adds his touch to the banger U-Huh and it’s glorious. His approach of fun warm synths are a perfect match for Tkay’s voice and fiery lyrics. It’s undeniably one of my favorite tracks this week.
UNTIL THE RIBBON BREAKS - REVOLUTION INDIFFERENCE FEAT RUN THE JEWELS
One of the most interesting sounds being produced this year comes from British trio Until The Ribbon Breaks. Their fusion of RnB and electronic beats showcase their maturity in their sound. In this particular piece above, UTRB enlist El-P and Killer Mike and create a track that is an absolute: MUST LISTEN.
KERO KERO BONITO - BUILD IT UP
So much win! Yes! Yes! Yes! I swear KKB never disappoints.
LYON - CUT ME LOOSE
As far as making an impression, Canadian pop artist Lyon knows exactly how to go about it. Injecting your ears with infectious beats and contagious lyrics with a heavy synth pop groove. It’s the kind of track that will be on repeat for a while.
DAVID GUETTA - LISTEN DELUXE EDITION (PREVIEW)
Well ... this can really only go two ways. Either you’re going to thank us for hooking you up with a sneak peak of David Guetta’s album Listen or ummm...You’re going to barf out your turkey dinner. Whatever the case we just want to say: YOU’RE WELCOME.

Stay safe kids and I hope you a fabulous rest of the week. See ya next week.
About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
