BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 28
With today’s ten best of indie pop songs, the weather isn’t the only thing around here that is making us sweat the gallon of ice cream we ate last night. Childish Gambino, Twenty One Pilots, Rudimental, Sofi Tukker, and the rest of our handpicked tracks are raising the temperature up in here. So before pressing play on the playlist below make sure you grab yourself and ice pack and stand near a fan. No matter how much sweat drips down your body make sure you listen all the way through because this is the best thing you can do for your mind and body, plus c’mon, what else do you have going on right now, it’s summer and I know you’re there isn’t much of anything going on right now. So turn it up and enjoy.
TWENTY ONE PILOTS - NICO AND THE NINERS
Twenty One Pilots is spreading the Island vibe with their latest single “Nico And The Niners” form their upcoming LP Trench, due out October of this year. Though the reggae influence is strong, the track itself stays close to the bands style of psych alt rock and is perhaps the track that introduces the bad guys of the story. But more of that story here.
CHILDISH GAMBINO - SUMMERTIME MAGIC
Holy mother of sweetness! Yasss, this is how we want to get out of bed every morning. Childish Gambino has dropped two new singles and they are just what was needed to get us out of bed.
MATY NOYES - LAVA LAMPS FEAT. BEEKWILDER
Maty Noyes will get you moving with her funk infused groovy single “Lava Lamps” featuring the guest vocals and production talent of Beekwilder. It’s a laid back track that makes you wanna forget about responsibilities for a quick second and just dance to the beat.
YEARS & YEARS - LUCKY ESCAPE
Olly Alexander always gets to me. His vocals make the lyrics of the band’s tracks come to life and today’s feature is no exception. Love and the heartbreak that sometimes comes from love is complicated, but they makes it easy to be able to say “Bye Felicia” and move on. I mean, look at these lyrics: “You're so deluded, you're such a fake / And now you got somebody else to manipulate / I think I dodged a bullet / I made a lucky escape.”
SOFI TUKKER - GOOD TIME GIRL FEAT. CHARLIE BARKER
I’m on a boat! Sofi Tukker navigate their way through the waters of London on a boat in their video for “Good Time Girl.” The waters aren’t the only thing they are navigating, according to their inspiration for “Good Time Girl,” it’s about navigating through a casual relationship. We know all about that drama, been there, done that, over it.
POPPY - METAL
There is something scary about Poppy. It could be her monotone mock pop culture personality, or the controversy of her character, but that all seems to not matter when she opens her mouth. She’s bewitching and all around weird. From one weirdo to another, “Metal” is certified freshness.
RUDIMENTAL & MAJOR LAZER - LET ME LIVE FEAT. ANNE MARIE & MR EAZI
I am officially a fan of English singer-songwriter Anne Marie. While Rudimental and Major Lazer are chilling in the video, Anne Marie let’s loose and has you feeling all sorts of good. Her energy lights up track and keeps you coming back for a second play.
RAYE - FRIENDS
More and more women need to unite, especially in the music industry. One female power house who has had enough is Raye, who boldly calls out the girl on girl hate BS within the first seven seconds of her newest single “Friends.” As entertaining as some Tweets may read, Raye is right, enough is enough.
NAVY - RUNNING IN MY SLEEP
For those looking for something painfully beautiful we’ve got something that will make you shed tears. New Zealand talent Navy marks her debut with the stunning pop ballad “Running In My Sleep.” One take is all you need to know that there is greatness in store for this artist. Let’s just hope this new found success helps her heart mend.
BROCKHAMPTON - 1999 WILDFIRE
Brockhampton’s “1999 Wildfire” is yet more proof that they are the hottest boy band to exist since The Rat Pack. Bouncy beats, and tongue in cheek lyrics make this single another one to add to the must - listen to playlist on your phones.

That’s all we have for you today. We’ll be back next week with more hand picked indie and alternative pop tracks.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
