BEST EDM - WEEK 18
Hi there and welcome to another issue of dance music weekly. We’ve got all the hottest stars and the sickest DJs for you on our program tonight. These songs are so on fire that you won’t even know what hit you. All of a sudden you’ll be like burned alive completely like the witches of Salem, and then your soul be released into the fabrics of world to wreak havoc on the people who caused your demise. Praise to the witch gods for this beautiful dance music bounty that we have received in honor of their sacrifice. May the trees and earth live forever and the human race go extinct. Woah. Well...
We’ve got such amazing new tuuuuunes for y’all from Fedde Le Grand, Autograf, I See Monstas and Henry Fong x Quad City DJ’s (WHAT?!) Good Week y’all!
TWRK - HELICOPTER
If you already know the name TWRK then you know they are all about putting out the hyphyiest, most twerkable trap beats. This track first perfectly in their oeuvre, with hints of Major Lazer here to ramp it up into the next eschelon. This shit is gonna make clubs go off— so many girls twerking, so many dudes doing the helicopter. You don’t know what the helicopter is? Look it up.
That's definitely what this song is about.
PROTOHYPE & PHASEONE- RECON
Some people (me) say dubstep died when trap took over. But now that trap is dead, that gives dubstep the ability to return the public, RIGHT? Protohype and PhaseOne are hitting us with some heavy ass drops reminiscent of the sounds of yesteryear. Are we in the past again? Is time travel possible? Or is the time travel map just constantly folding in on itself, meeting at points in time? Yeah, that!
FERDINAND WEBER - WHAT
Spinnin Deep is responsible for releasing some of the coolest tracks I’ve heard this year and Ferdinand Weber’s "What" is no exception. The A&R team at Spinnin has done some serious digging into the promo world of house / tropical house / future and come up with some of the most interesting and unique melodies in dance music.
“Full support for this track.” - Pete Tong (Me dressed as Pete Tong for Halloween)
MISS VELVET - CINCINNATI STREET (PNAU REMIX)
This is one of those times where you hear a remix and are introduced to a vocal talent that rocks your socks off. Miss Velvet has a VOICE. Pnau turned her beautiful vocal track into a smooth banging electro track with twinges of techno to back it up. Sounds p good to me.
FEDDE LE GRAND & PATRIC LA FUNK - TAKE ME HOME
With Fedde being around for pretty much absolutely forever, it's suspect that Patric La Funk had to have jacked his name format from the legend. Fedde was all like “I’m honored” and Patric was all like “lets do a track together.” And then they did and that’s where we’re at now. But, ignoring all that made up history the dudes have come up with some awesome sounds here. The synths sound like old school pre-EDM boom Fedde. It’s nice to see a dude who was once THE BOSS returning to what made him so good in the first place. Did Patric bring it out of you, Fedde? WHO KNOWS! Find out next week on... BitCandy.com!
SHELCO GARCIA & TEENWOLF VS BOOMSLANG - YOUNG & GOLD FEAT. J. ESHO
Sometimes you just gotta ask how so many dudes can work on one track together at the same time? Two collaborations and a VS plus a feature. This title reads more confusing than hollywood screenwriter credits, you know what I mean? LOL. Okay, now ignore everything I already said, let’s actually talk about the track. J.Esho has a really nice voice and is going to be a great addition to any EDM song over the next couple of years. All of the dudes involved in this song formed a real chill, decently produced EDM progressive house summer tune. It’s got the big drop sounds, but is really just a secret chiller. This is gonna be perfect 2015 pool party vibes.
ALESSO - COOL (AUTOGRAF REMIX)
Autograf has been consistently releasing quality music since Day 1, so it’s nice to see them get a shot at something that people will notice, and in 2015 there’s almost nothing better than getting a coveted Alesso remix. I like Alesso’s original version, but between this and the sweater beats remix it can just disappear, because the other dudes got actual quality shit covered. Here, Autograf turns it into a chiller of a French-Disco Filter House with hints of Tropical House. It’s got ideas reminiscent of early Breakbot and it’s so hook filled and fun and catchy and DAMN Autograf— you just leveled up.
BUNT. - JOURNEY (FT. EMMA CARN)
Well I’m a sucker for a beautiful horn line. The rest of the song could basically be Pip farting on a snare drum and I’d still be into it. This shit starts off with the freshest saxophone line since Dom Lalli (Big Gigantic) let fame go to his head. Good thing the rest of this song is good too. Beautiful vocals from Emma Carn, catchy tropical house vibes and the weirdest pan flute solo this side of Anchorman.
ABOVE & BEYOND - ALL OVER THE WORLD FEAT. ALEX VARGAS (I SEE MONSTAS REMIX)
This one POPPED off my soundcloud feed. Wait, I See Monsters remixing Above & Beyond, let’s give that one a listen. Imagine my surprise when I See Monsters changed their sound up, dropping me with the most beautiful, unexpected drum & bass remix of a progressive house/trance song since “random song title reference.” Right? Just give this one a listen and see for yourself. You’re gonna have a party, guaranteed*.
*not guaranteed, but come on.
HENRY FONG X QUAD CITY DJS - C'MON N' RIDE IT BOOTY-LEG
Okay props to Henry Fong for having the sack to update the Quad City DJ’s CLASSIC to a modern era. This song bangs and adds a whole new life to a song that should have never died in the first place. Of course, he goes and throws in big Festival Trap drops, but hey people still like that right? WHY NOT FONG!? WHY NOT? (Also it must be noted that Henry Fong is sampling Shiba San - Okay when the track says “Okay.” That’s pretty bomb.)

Sorry if I got too esoteric this week.

About Kurt Kroeber
From deep within the murky depths of the Los Angeles River emerged a creature: 50% raver, 50% comedian, 10% Robotcop. Kurt Kroeber doesn’t own a dog, operates Soundbleed (the world’s only dance party comedy talk show rave), and is down to party with you. Come up some time and say “Hey dude!” But definitely make sure to casually drop the secret Illuminati password.
