BEST CHILL OUT MUSIC - WEEK 6 2014
Can you believe January is already over and done with for another year? How are you feeling? Has everything got off to a good start for you? Have you stuck to that New Year's resolution of yours? Should I stop asking you so many questions? Regardless, maybe now is a good time to pause and reflect on how shit is really going down for you so far this year while you listen to this week's best chill out music. Shout out to the Curators who helped me out with today's pickings from Kashuks, Banks, XXYYXX and more! If you think you've got what it takes to be a Curator, sign up here!

KASHUKS – UNIVERSE
Concluding YouTube channel Mr. Suicide Sheep's “Experimental Week,” and launching BitCandy's “Best Chill Out Music – Week 6,” it's “Universe” by Kashuks. And what a gorgeous video to accompany! Nice to see Kashuks cameo too. More producers need to cameo in their own videos!
BANKS – BRAIN
“Ugh, yeah!” That's the sound I always make whenever I listen to Banks. “Ugh, yeah!” Her vocals hit me in my erogenous zones. She deserved the gold medal, not the bronze, in BBC's Sound Of 2014. By the way, “Brain” was produced by none other than Shlohmo. I know, exciting shit right?
XXYYXX – WITCHING HOUR
To celebrate his appearance at the most hipster touring festival in the history of hipster touring festivals, Laneway, Future Classic are giving away this beat from XXYYXX. It's not overwhelming or anything, plus I still find it hilarious it samples Biffy Clyro, but don't be an ungrateful asshole!
GEMS – DON'T CRY (SEAL COVER)
Gems have taken time out from promoting their Medusa EP in order to upload this cover of a Seal classic. And no, it's not “Kiss From A Rose!” Also, check out Lindsay's recreation of the iconic Seal II album artwork. Speaking of which! What do you think of these epic new SoundCloud embeds?
SUN GLITTERS – ONLY YOU
Chillwave isn't for the summer months only! It's also for the crisp winter afternoons spent hanging out with your hipster skater beau and his anachronistically polite friends. Seriously, since when did teenage boys start greeting girls with a kiss on the cheek? This is pleasant, keep it up children!
MANSIONAIR – HOLD ME DOWN (FEAT. REVIER)
It's only just occurred to me how often I feature Australian acts in this column! Acts like Chet Faker, RY X and Flume. Mansionair, a Syndey duo who appeared from out of nowhere this January with “Hold Me Down,” are the latest addition to that list. Until morning comes, let's tessellate, Alt J fans!
TWIN CAVERNS – UNDISCOVER – CURATOR DUFFSTER
Considering it took us almost 15 hours to get here, we might as well stay in Australia for one more song! Most of the other buzz blogs you waste your hipster life reading featured Twin Caverns for the first time this week. BitCandy first wrote about the trip hop duo two months ago. Fucking zing!
ZAIKA – LIES, NO SLEEP
This instrumental from Zaika should come with a warning. Don't listen to “Lies, No Sleep” if you plan on driving, operating machinery, or if you have urinary incontinence. It simultaneously made me trip balls, and desperately want to take a pee. An interesting, and slightly alarming, experience!
MOLLY BEANLAND – ELECTRIC
No, that isn't Debbie Harry. She's dead, isn't she? And no, that isn't Sky Ferreira. She's going to be dead soon, isn't she? That's London based artist, Molly Beanland! She recently released her official debut single, pop gem “Night Dreams,” but this older song of hers is more suited to today's column.
LITTLE DRAGON – RITUAL UNION (PRFFTT, SVYABLE AND MANILA KILLA REMIX)
A couple of weeks ago, I brought you Waterstrider's cover of “Twice” by Little Dragon. I'm keeping the love for the Swedish band going today with this take on “Ritual Union” by holy producer trinity, PRFFT, Svyable and Manila Killa. It gets off to a slow start, but magical shit goes down halfway in.

About Jess Grant
When Jess Grant isn't writing on music, she can be found playing it – on her guitar, on her ukulele, and on her recently acquired mandolin. Playing it hideously, she ought to add. Jess also studies. She studies the English language, to be precise. Jess is currently on her way to a degree in the subject, and enjoys starting and never finishing novels, screenplays, and poetry in her spare time. She also likes dogs. Lots of dogs.
