BEST ALTERNATIVE POP - WEEK 50
Stop whatever you’re doing because this is all sorts of important. I’m turning the happiness switch on by letting you in on the best indie pop songs while wearing my Batman onesie. Joy and happiness for all, that’s exactly what these indie artists below are bringing, along with plenty of danceable melodies and winning lyrics. They may not be festive for this time of year, but they sure as hell keep you sane during the holiday season. So open a window and spread the cheer. Let your neighbors enjoy the sounds of HOLYCHILD, DONKEYBOY, HILLSTRŌM & BILLY, and other banging acts.
HOLYCHILD - RUNNING BEHIND
Something about Liz’s grunting and the “uh” and “ah - ah” sounds she makes remind me of a soft porn. On a less perv note, HOLYCHILD has this wonderful knack of creating alluring danceable pop tunes. I’m not one who can read a magic 8 ball, but I foresee that 2015 will be sweeet to them.
BUNT. - HARMONICA
Alluring in every sense of the word is the best way to describe the music being produced by German duo Bunt. Through its jazzy/folksy feel and groovy melody, these two offer up a loaded danceable track. Take a listen above and prepare to have your ears melted.
CHARLI XCX - BREAKING UP [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Charli is so my girl. Love that she’s channeling her inner Debbie Harry and love her take on pop. To simply put it, she’s managed to capture the sound of the 90s making "Breaking Up" a carefree, grungy, fun pop song. Her new album, Sucker, drops December 15 through Neon Gold/Atlantic.
TAKE ME ON THE CRAZY TRAIN (OZZY OSBOURNE VS A-HA) MASHUP
This is glorious on so many levels. When it comes to creative song combinations, this mashup is a home-run. Only in a parallel universe would I have thought to combine new wave sounds with heavy metal. And as for the video, well it’s on a whole other level of batshit crazy.
DONKEYBOY - HERO (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO)
For fans of Capital Cities, Hero will be of your liking. It has all the ingredients to be a hit. Donkeyboy’s latest effort is their best yet. It’s catchy and poppy and sends a soothing message to the listeners. Guys, I’m a fan.
JESSIE WARE- YOU & I (FOREVER)
I blame these kind of songs for my weight gain. They make me crave apple fritters and whiskey because they remind me that while everyone I know is out enjoying a night of bumping uglies with their bea, I’m alone in my onesie typing my tears away. Thank you Jessie Ware for the sweet reminder.
NELLY FURTADO X TIMBALAND (DR. FRESCH REMIX)
A blast from the past gets a sexy smooth makeover and it’s been getting some major play in da clubs. Dr. Fresch produced a solid one and it’s rubbing me the right way.
PARTY NEXT DOOR - LET’S GET MARRIED
Huh? This is not the PND that I want. The sound is smooth as efffff but I could care less for the lyrics on this because I know PND can do waaaay better. SMH!
HILLSTRŌM & BILLY - KEYS IN THE LAKE
Let’s give a warm welcome to the Swedish act Hillstrom & Billy. Their single, "Keys In The Lake," is something I’m sure we can all relate to. With a glistening percussion frosted over smooth synths and calming vocals, it is this week’s favorite musical gem.
RAYE. - BET U WISH
RAYE. marks her return with another strong and intense single. For being only 17 years of age, she's as polished as they come. If she keeps this mature evolving sound up, it is most likely certain that mainstream success will be in the horizon for her.

Stay tuned for part 2 of the best indie pop songs. Toodles biatches.
About Beca Arredondo
Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
