NEW ARTIST: MILKY CHANCE

12/10/13

Dear seriously cool music person, what's up? Well, with us today...we're excited to bring you German-based singer-songwriter Milky Chance. I don’t know how well his new album, Sadnecessary, will compliment your seasonal festivities appropriately, but it sure will please your earholes. His soft, almost smoky sounding vocals are quite ear pleasing, and they pair ever so nicely with his use of folksy acoustic guitar, interesting rhythms, and lots of shakers. It’s like entering an alternate universe where everyone is really laid back and Jack Johnson is super folksy and into doing imitations of Iron & Wine and Fleet Foxes. Doesn’t make sense? Then take a listen and you’ll get what I’m talking about.

I can’t be the only one who instantly thought of that classic SNL skit when seeing the title of this song, right? Well, I know he’s not talking about the same river that Chris Farley was parking his van next to. This song is a little more intense, featuring fancy guitar picking and dark vocals that eventually turn into haunting echoes.

He switches things up a bit on “Flashed Junk Mind” by using electric guitar and lots of upward strumming that creates an ever so slight ska/reggae vibe. It’s definitely one of his peppier, dare I say fun-sounding songs and it’s great. The lyrics are pretty repetitive, but  probably my favorite of his and I can imagine the crowd at his shows loudly singing along.

Big thanks to BitCandy Curator, Pedestrians, for sharing this new artist with us! If you liked what you heard, make sure to check out Milky Chance on Facebook and give him some likes. You know you want to.
