BEST NEW VIDEOS: PETITE MELLER - MILK BATH

7/11/16

At first I thought it would be funny to pretend like I understood what I was seeing when I watched Petite Meller thypnotizing new video, “Milk Bath.” I don’t, not even for a moment. That hasn’t stopped me from watching it a dozen or more times in succession though.

In our digital age people are always writing things (usually in all CAPS) like “This is INSANE!!!”, but this video actually is completely bonkers. This is one of those rare instances where the hyperbole is totally justified.

“Milk Bath” was shot in what appears to be Senegal, as I’m pretty sure the pink body of water is Lake Retba. Quick science lesson, the lake is pink because of the presence of Dunaliella salina, an algae found predominately in salt fields. Rumor has it Petite was able to film in the exotic lake thanks to an assist from some scientists at Cornell University (Ithaca represent!). She even got a sample of the sodium-heavy water for them.

A.T.Mann directed this glorious mess, while Håvard Byrkjeland took care of cinematography. Meanwhile Peter Dayer-Smith and Marius Jansen handled the drone work. More drones used for camera work, less drones used for bombings, you guys.

PETITE MELLER “MILK BATH”

I need more of Petite Meller’s music and music videos in my life. If she could get them out in a littler quicker than every 9 months that’d be fantastic.

In closing, here are the lyrics to Petite Meller “Milk Bath.”

just like the heat causes fire
cause you know it makes me go higher
when you touch me heaps in the shower
god exists between your dollars
please stop making me kneel
while i sink in the hot tub
shoulda know i feel freaky the whole time
my heart beats faster

coming to get you, coming to get you
this love is gonna get me down, down
this love is gonna get me-

i'll wait up, my clothes off, in milk bath
i'll blow your head up with a whisper
just wake up, and reach out
boy won't you play with me for real
boy won't you play with me for real

but in the heat of the hour
my love should have expired
when you blow your hair in the dryer
fools can see beneath your swagger
straight up, you're killing the funk boy
while i'm here, waiting to reach out
don't you feel dirty but alive
to hold my ripped side

coming to get you, coming to get you
this love is gonna get me down, down
this love is gonna get me-

i'll wait up, my clothes off, in milk bath
i'll blow your head up with a whisper
just wake up, and reach out
boy won't you play with me for real
boy won't you play with me for real

my teeth don't work
and my heartbeat's frail
and my eyes wide red
they've been set on the ceiling
i'll be your brave one
i'm trying my [favorite?]
i can't fit each phrase when
there's no more to say now

i'll wait up, my clothes off, in milk bath
i'll blow your head up with a whisper
just wake up, and reach out
boy won't you play with me for-
i'll wait up, my clothes off, in milk bath
i'll blow your head up with a whisper
boy won't you play with me for real
boy won't you play with me for real
