MARC E. BASSY - GOSSIP COLUMNS FEAT. BOBBY BRACKINS

After the indefinite hiatus of his band 2AM, Marc Griffin is currently performing under the pseudonym of Marc E. Bassy and is already off to a flying start as a solo artist. Several months early, I reviewed Griffin's synth-pop jam, “Plot Twist,” which I thoroughly enjoyed due to its addictive and catchy hooks. The track really showed off his versatility. This time around, the smooth and soothing vocals are replaced by his more typical sound that is a hybrid style of singing and rapping.

spotify Though it's a nice sequel with a lovely guitar-riff intro, it is an extremely sexual track that borders on the realm of vulgar. “Gossip Columns” could have done with a bit more discretion and a tad bit less graphic, but somehow the lyrics just end up coming off as genius. The idea of hooking for all of the wrong reasons ends up becoming gossip-worthy. But with a situation like that, can any of us really keep quiet? Flanking the rhymes delivered by Bobby Brackins, “Gossip Columns” isn't that bad of an experience when you consider the subject material. It's not for everyone, but we can say that about a lot of songs, nowadays. Still, the outro featuring Griffin at his vocal best is the worth the price of admission.
