BEST NEW TRACKS: DEUTSCH DUKE - SO REAL

3/21/18

Y’all ready for a tearjerker????

Australian musician & producer Deutsch Duke will have your soul melting and lips quivering with the fluidity of his voice. But his recent song will most likely hit you harder than you’d originally expect. As Duke mentioned on his Facebook post, this single was inspired during a time when he was simultaneously celebrating the life of his son -- and the loss of his brother. Yeah, life can be f*cking brutal.

But at least we’ve got this emotionally stirring track. Listen to “So Real” and watch the accompanying video below.

DEUTSCH DUKE - SO REAL

“So Real” starts off with a somber croon that sounds both familiar and jarring. Next, Duke comes in at the verse, sounding like a lamenting James Blake in The Colour in Anything, showing off his chops, and delivering an isolating and haunting vocal performance. The apex of the track comes about mid-point though, with the repetition of the track’s bridge. “Remember me,” Duke continues to sing, alluding to the loss and overall temporality that follows in its wake. The synths pick up and meld into the composition of the track, and it’s like a transformation before your ears. What started as a song about death suddenly becomes a celebration of life, if the soaring synths have much to say about it.

Also, fun fact: The adorable kid in the vid is Duke’s son, Bastien. Isn’t he amazing?!

Something tells me Deutsch Duke isn’t done releasing music this year. Stay tuned, my peoples.
