BEST NEW MUSIC: DJ SNAKE & MERCER - LET’S GET ILL

6/27/18

HOLY HELL! DJ SNAKE AND MERCER TOGETHER?!

That’s like THE French Trap royalty collaboration of the season. This is like bigger than the royal wedding! Even if all the true snake-heads and merc-aholics know that this isn’t their first musical rodeo together. In this rodeo to rave comparison, I see riding bulls as the writing and producing of EDM songs and the audience as more or less the same, maybe with Lil Jon screaming “Turn Down For What?” as the equivalent of a Rodeo Clown.

“Let’s Get Ill” follows up 2014’s “Lunatic” and a 2015 remix of Tchami’s “After Life.” Even though it’s been three years, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say these two really dig working together because they absolutely destroy it every time that they do. “Let's Get Ill” is no exception, and possibly the best of all of their collabs. So get as excited as a duck in a pond and jump up and down on your lily pads to give this one a first listen. This one’s a party.

BEST NEW MUSIC: DJ SNAKE & MERCER - LET’S GET ILL

“Let’s Get Ill” has got more of a bass-house sound than either of these two have ever shown before, and I have to wonder if the success of their other two buddies Tchami and Malaa have begun to rub off on these two. DJ Snake, Mercer, Tchami and Malaa all toured extensively under the Pardon My French brand and after this release it sounds like we’re going to need a follow up of that now legendary tour if these two veer away towards trap and towards that underground house sound that’s ruling massive, nightclubs and everywhere in between.

DJ Snake can be found headlining Ultra Croatia, Hard Red Rocks and Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas. Mercer will be hitting smaller clubs throughout July, so you’ve got less opportunities to see him but that doesn’t make those dates any less special. With one handling raves and the other clubs that means you can listen to this specific track destroy in a variety settings, depending on what you (or your bank account) prefers. It’s bound going to slaughter dance floors all summer long and you’ll be able to scream “I KNOW THIS ONE” before anybody else does.

Just when I thought they were out of catchy sayings to get the crowd pumped up and party harder, these two come up with something like “lets get ill.” What’s next? Puke, Rage, Rave, Repeat? I’m Too Sick to Party? Violently Ill, But Shuffling?
