BEST NEW EDM: LUCIAN - DO MY THING (FEAT. PHILOSOFIE)

5/11/17

Beginning his humble music production career releasing remixes like of Black Coast’s TRNDSTTR, Lucian has moved into the creation of original tracks. Hot off the press here at We Are: The Guard is his newest offering, "Do My Thing," and features baby-faced vocalist, Philosofie.

LUCIAN - DO MY THING (FEAT. PHILOSOPHIE)

Based in New York, Lucian blasted into the forefront of the music scene by remixing TRNDSTTR from Brooklyn’s own, Black Coast. A couple months ago, he also remixed Alessia Cara’s Here with great effectiveness. So, he’s pretty adept at remixing songs, but how is he at producing his own material?

Do My Thing is basically a female rejection to a wealthy, good-looking male’s advances, because she doesn’t want to be treated like property. Simple enough, but the hook is a memorable one filled with witty charm. The instrumentals implemented by Lucian does its best to not overpower the straightforward vocal approach of fellow New Yorker, Philosofie. There isn’t much vocal range exhibited here in this track, but that’s not part of her modus operandi. As something to chill the nerves, this one is just the ticket. Basic, but extremely memorable. Yet, it didn’t hook me as much as his other tracks. Nothing against Do My Thing, but I enjoyed Close to You and Sober Heart much more. And to answer my previous question, his own material is top-notch.

“I don’t want your diamond rings/Can you let me do my thing” is the perfect rejection line for any lady who wants to get rid of a douchebag at the club. Feel free to use it free of charge.
