BEST OF INDIE POP - WEEK 50

12/12/19

This is the Best of Indie Pop baby and we’re ready to light your Thursday on fire by expanding your mind to the sounds of the artists we’ve listened to and loved this past week. And we better get to it quick because the end of the year is upon us and the music seems to have no intention in stopping. And … I also need to get a jump start on some Home Alone binge-watching and get my Kevin McAllister fill before Disney ruins this classic with a reboot. In the words of Kevin let’s get started with this list “you filthy animals.”

LIZZO - GOOD AS HELL

Lizzo is giving me life! Her “Good As Hell” single is all about them positive vibes. There’s a lot to go around too. All you all toss your hair up, check your nails, and yell out loud how good you’re feeling.

THE CHAINSMOKER & KYGO - FAMILY

The Chainsmokers take a ride on the slow lane and adapt to Kygo’s style of a more chill back vibe. Their collaboration in “Family” is a nice reminder this season about the importance of family. Now, family can come in any shape or form, sisters from another mister, brothers from another mother … who ever they may be, be sure to show your love to them this winter.

LIAM PAYNE, CHEAT CODES - LIVE FOREVER

No joke, I was not a fan of Liam Payne and honestly not sure if I am one now, but I can not resist a beat that makes my body move. The lyrics are slick and on point with the theme that One Direction seems to sing about. We have Liam singing “Live Forever,” Zayn “i Don’t Want To Live Forever.” and 1D singing “Live While We’re Young.”

THE WEEKND - HEARTLESS

Me:

DESTINY ROGERS - EUPHORIA

You know those pecan snowball cookies that come around this time of year. Yeah, well every time I sink my teeth into one of those I swear it’s like I’m feeling exactly what Destiny Roger’s is singing about in “Euphoria.” In all seriousness, though Destiny Rogers is perhaps the coolest kid out there.

LAUREN SANDERSON - UPSET

If you are like Lauren Sanderson and happen to be tired and bothered by the news and pretty much everything that is unreal and lame, be sure to surround yourself with people who are good to you. Be patient, turn off the TV, take a walk, and meditate on how great life is while you listen to “Upset.”

BROCKHAMPTON - SUGAR

How this has been taken down by YouTube beats me… but if you haven’t seen the video and you feel like watching some raunchy soft sci-fi porn then Brockhampton has you covered in “Sugar.”

SMOKEPURPP- WHAT I PLEASE FEAT. DENZEL CURRY

Denzel Curry and Smokepurpp absolutely murdered this track. I am officially dead!!!!

STEVE AOKI, STING, SHAED - 2 IN A MILLION

Can I get an amen! Yummy, I’ll have sting on my playlist any day. The legend, the man, the hunk is here to show us that after 4 decades in the music biz he can not only school us on talent, but kick it like a boss with the younger generation.

JUICE WRLD - CHANGE YOU DOWN

We wrap up this week’s post with a final song from a legend in the making, Juice Wrld. We lost a talent way too soon. I guess fame and talent come with a price. May his loved ones find their light soon.

Thanks again for stopping by. And to come to full circle, in the words of Kevin McCallister “are you thirsty for more?” If so, we got you boo. You can always get more indie music goodness on our Spotify playlist, just click here.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
